Thirty-five years as a justifiable rock musician allows Bruce Springsteen an opinion on the state of over-the-air radio, and he takes it--and takes the medium to the woodshed on the ruthless "Radio Nowhere." The opening smash sets the tone, with the ageless Boss wondering, "Is th...

Live: 1975-85 (3CD)

To say that Springsteen's live shows with the E Street Band were legendary is the height of understatement. On a good night, the set might extend to three and four hours of exhilarating, pulse-pounding rock & roll. How best to capture that on CD? Or was it possible at all? As it ...

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band - Live in New York City

There's only one better way to experience these performances by Bruce Springsteen and his reunited E Street Band, and that's if you were actually in Madison Square Garden when they were recorded in June and July 2000. This two-disc set includes more than three hours of music. D...

Tracks (4CD)

Next time you find yourself debating the worth of Bruce Springsteen, pull out this brilliant four-disc outtake set. With a flick of his grease-monkey wrist, Springsteen proves--simply by issuing long-unreleased material--why he's the most consistent (read: important) composer in ...

Darkness on the Edge of Town

The pain of a protracted legal battle with his former manager and the release of being allowed to record again after a three-year layoff are equally apparent from the piercing hard rock and harsh lyrical content of Darkness on the Edge of Town. Betrayal and hard work that comes t...

Bruce Springsteen - VH-1 Storytellers

If you'd rather hear Bruce Springsteen talk than sing or play, then this edition of VH-1 Storytellers is for you. That's not just faint praise. While it's obviously his music that has made his marathon concerts legendary, Springsteen is also a gifted raconteur; "storyteller" appl...

The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle

If Springsteen's debut, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. revealed just how ambitious a talent he was, it also fell just short of realizing those ambitions. No such problem with this, his second album. The Dylanesque wordplay is there, but with more narrative detail, as on "4th of...

Reviews:

Born To Run 30th Anniversary
A Pleasant Surprise hearing the add'l detail hidden in the non-master recording. The concert video really rocks! This is a must have for true fans. GOD BLESS NJ!

Highly elaborated, a real jewel
You can't miss this one, even if it is for the excellent 90 minutes documentary. The album itself we all know, but a remastered version is always useful. The show at the Hammersmith Odeon, 1975, is also obligatory, since it's the only official DVD release of the E-Street Band up to 2000! (line-up here was classic The Boss, Bittan, Clarence, Van Zandt, Federici, Tallent e Weinberg). Yes, it's dark and all, but it's still has satisfactory quality e sound is amazing. The booklet also is very good, a work of art. All in all, you can't skip this one.

Perfection in a Historical Context
The perfection of each number makes Born to Run an extraordinary release that defines time. And this unique CD and 2-DVD is an essential exploration of the power and musical genius of Bruce Springsteen. The Hammersmith Odeon - November 1975 - concert DVD is worth the price of admission, as larger-than-life myths have surrounded this first gig outside the U.S. Though truth can be stranger than fiction - Springsteen has joked for years about the bored-looking British media occupying the first couple of rows - the band delivered an astonishing show in a historical venue in a rare display of a group living up to the hype from a record company's PR onslaught. The DVD on the making of the album is highly informative and avoids the trappings of simply being a saccharine sketch muddled by egos; it is a lesson on how such features should be produced. While many boxed sets supplement the original release - and are seemingly packaged for collectors - this is as perfect place to start for new fans as it is for those looking to bolster their CD/DVD library of Springsteen/E Street Band material.

An Absolute Masterpiece Just Got Better
Brilliant, insightful lyrics - superb playing and musicianship - masterful production and engineering - Born to Run may be the single most important album of the last 35 years by an American recording artist. This is the only Bruce Springsteen album I own, and it is most certainly a "most played" item on my IPod. The 30th Anniversary edition also contains the stellar performance at Hammersmith Odeon in 1975, featuing a young and hungry Bruce and his mighty E Street Band. Bruce and the E St. Band would make other good to great albums (River, Born in the USA, The Rising), but nothing can touch this crown jewel. If this album does not move you, check and see if you have a pulse.
