      Surfacing

Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
There's the requisite number of gorgeously melodic and deeply heartfelt songs here--the addictive "Sweet Surrender," the Hollywood-style ballad "I Love You," the sad, profound "Angel," the flat-out spectacular "Witness." McLachlan's not prolific, but this short, bittersweet album proves again that what she and producer Pierre Marchand do release is cut from the finest of cloth. --Jeff Bateman

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

Pre-Lilith Fair, McLachlan had critical acclaim and a cult following but was otherwise just another hard-working female singer/songwriter--one who wasn't blasting down doors with overt sexuality or popping along in front of a male Svengali. Similar in their emotional urgency to h...
Afterglow
Afterglow

Is Sarah McLachlan a secret punk rocker? To be sure, her rebellion is hushed. On Afterglow, her first studio album since 1997's Surfacing, McLachlan's music is as tempered as ever; at times even the piano chords at the heart of the sound are tucked neatly beneath layer upon layer...
Mirrorball
Mirrorball

Grafted from McLachlan's supremely satisfying 1998 performances, Mirrorball is drawn almost equally from the multiplatinum Surfacing and its superior predecessor, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. (Included also is the lovely, hard-to-come-by "I Will Remember You.") Live, a haunting ball...
Solace
Solace

Solace, Nova Scotian Sarah McLachlan's second album, is considerably more mature and musically sophisticated than her 1988 debut, the promising if limited Touch. In fact, this disc is a must-have for McLachlan fans whose first encounter with her work was with her extremely popula...
Wintersong
Wintersong

An album like this could cement Sarah McLachlan as a middle-of-the-road crooner ready for the Andy Williams Christmas Show, but there's more beneath the surface of Wintersong than just Christmas chestnuts, over-roasting on an open fire. Longtime McLachlan producer Pierre Marchan...

Rarities, B-Sides 2 And Other Stuff, Volume 2

Culminated from Sarah McLachlan's illustrious recording career, the Rarities, B-Sides And Other Stuff, Volume 2 collection contains Sarah McLachlan material never before available before on one CD. The collection includes live performances, rare recordings, remixes and soundtrac...
Touch
Touch

Nova Scotia-born singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan was only 20 years old when Touch was released in 1988. This is an impressive first effort, though maybe too earnest in its attempt to break new ground in otherwise familiar terrain of late-'80s synthesized textures. Yet McLachlan...

Closer-The Best of Sarah McLachlan

Closer: The Best Of Sarah Mclachlan contains 24 classic tracks personally selected by the artist from her award-winning catalog, as well as two newly recorded and previously unreleased songs, "U Want Me 2" and "Don't Give Up On Us", working with her longtime producer Pierre March...
No Angel
No Angel

Dido's debut is molded from Sarah McLachlan's intimate soul, Sinéad O'Connor's Celtic yelp, and Beth Orton's morose resolve--with all the sharp edges rounded out. Sculpted by producers Rollo (her brother) and techno-scientist Youth, No Angel is dream-pop mixed with Portishead-es...
Come Away with Me
Come Away with Me

It is not just the timbre of Norah Jones's voice that is mature beyond her 22 years. Her assured phrasing and precise time are more often found in older singers as well. She is instantly recognizable, blending shades of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone without sounding like anyone ...

Reviews:

An angel of a CD.
The hauntingly beautiful voice of Sarah MacLachlan, along with the beautiful words and melodies make this an A-one CD. The song "Angels" is my favorite, and I listen to it over and over again.

Sarah is the Best!
This is a great CD and Sarah is one of my favorite singers. Just recently I discovered Arrica Rose's new album La La Lost and it also blew me away. The poetry of their lyrics and beauty of their voices are unmistakeable.

The voice of a decade!
Sarah MacLachlan was the creator of a decade of sound, and a plethora of influenced musicians. Her sound still echoes in the the music being produced today. She was a great writer of ballads. This album is one that can be so easily listened to. No pretense, no electronic covering. The moments of silence are held as highly as are the moments of sound.

Wonderful, pleasant voice
Sarah Mclachlan is a gem to listen to. Her music and her voice is so soothing and so different from many popular artists out there, you can't help but fall in love. It is almost heartbreaking, the way she sings at times. I dislike to use this as an analogy, but she reminds me of a female James Blunt. They have a very similar sounding voice, and the way they sing, like I said, just heartbreaking. This is probably her best album, in my opinion, though her others are quite good as well.

Surfacing - Get the Japanese Import instead though!
Sarah McLachlan certainly takes her time with her records. We waited 4 years after FTE for Surfacing, another 6 for Afterglow - and we're still waiting for the new one! But Sarah's slow working technique assures absolute quality in her records while a lot of more modern artists just seem to crank out CD/Tour/CD/Tour without a pause. Yes Sarah takes her time, but thank god - its always worth the wait. Surfacing - her fourth studio album is an amazing piece of songwriting and production, and I agree with the compression issues that have been mentioned - get this album on viynl and you can hear the difference - the record is so much superior to the CD - but records DO sound better. I won't bore you with a track by track review of this album but what I will say is if you must buy Surfacing - get the Japanese Import edition for the beautiful Prayer Of St Francis which was recorded in the same set but for some insane reason there was no place for it. The song is short - only 2 minutes - but its arguably the most beautiful track Sarah ever worked on. I love how she arranged the verses of Saint Francis' prayer - so simple and elegant. Goosebumps assured.
