Bill Moyers called it a remarkable example of "the simple yet transformative power of music... to touch something in each of us." Variety acknowledged it as "a great showcase for just what incredible, thoroughly accessible popular music is being made worldwide. Utilizing innovative mobile audio/video techniques, Playing for Change (PFC) records musicians outdoors in cities and townships worldwide. They've travelled from post-Katrina New Orleans to post-apartheid South Africa, from the remote beauty of the Himalayas to the religious diversity of Jerusalem. Their talents are captured in myriad environments: under the sun and beneath the streetlights... in public parks, plazas and promenades... in doorways, on cobblestone streets, amid hilly pueblos. Their performances are subsequently combined in allowing them to collaborate - albeit separated by hundreds, or even thousands, of miles.

The dvd would not play. it kept getting stuck. it was a waste of money.
Great Item
A friend introduced me to this DVD/CD a few months ago. I bought ten on Amazon, kept one and gave nine as Christmas gifts. Everyone loves it, and it's a great project. I love to support projects like this. There is so much discord in the world, and this project brings people together all over the world through music. I recently purchased five more to give away. The price is very reasonable. I'll probably buy more in the future to give away.
Playing For Change
I was very excited when I saw that you were offering this CD/DVD. I first saw this on PBS/Bill Moyers program and looked all over the internet for someone who offered it for sale. So, I found it on Amazon, ordered it for a more critical review. I wasn't disappointed except to notice that some of the original acts that were on the PBS program were not included in the one offered by Amazon. Other than that I enjoy the CD/DVD very much. One of the churches in my town even used it as a sermon one Sunday morning and it was enjoyed by everyone.
Warren's reactions--Wow!
I have fallen in love with the "Playing for Change" DVD and the CD and often watch it late in the evening when the songs are running through my mind. The message is strong, but understated. It simply shows how music can be a unifying force across the world in a time when there appears to be so much divisiveness. It is so neat to see the unity in action, each contributing to the impact of the number.
We had a house fire back in September of 09 and when we get to move back to our home, we will invite all the neighbors who "stood by us" during and after the fire for a gathering, perhaps a potluck, at which I plan to show "Stand by Me," the first song on the DVD, and pledge our support back to them.
