Reviews:
A look at Black American Music History This II video (and video I) digs deep into how it all started and recognizes the most important people that gave us the best music.
Some good vintage performance footage.A few cut-aways and Big Mama is not shown performing.I enjoyed this, even though I believe it is mistitled.
A good film title would have been "Blues & Jazz Born in the USA"
This film also reminds us,as americans,of how we have come far in one hundred years and developed into a civilized society.
I received this the week of ML Kings birthday,so it was very special to celebrate him and all he has done to help america become intelligent and loving.
There is much black history here of musicians and non-musician heroes. Too much jazz filler! I bought both Vols. 1 and 2, and saw them one after the other, and I noticed to much jazz filler in both. I want blues. I love and respect the jazz ladies (Holliday, Leena Horn, et. al.) but I bought this for the blues. It could have contained more Delta guys, some Chicago artists, West Coast blues, Texas... come on! There's more out there to have made a beautiful video but the jazz filler just doesn't seem right on a blues video. And please don't tell me Billie Holliday is blues! |
