Great NIGHTSHIRT
OK guys, move over. Girls these make fabulous NIGHTSHIRTS. In the winter I wear tights underneath them. I order them at least 3x my normal size for comfort sake, that way I don't get too tangled up in them. The also go great over leggings or in my case, again, over a swimsuit because I'm 55 but don't tell anyone. They are good shirts to wear over or under or whatever.
Not what they used to be . . . AT ALL!
I have been wearing Fruit of the Loom undershirts for nearly 40 years. They have gradually changed over the years, but the changes were generally acceptable. A few months ago, I purchased some new crewneck undershirts in a 5-pack similar to what is being sold here at Amazon.
I will likely never again purchase undershirts from Fruit of the Loom.
First, as other reviewers have pointed out, the shirts are thin. They are, in fact, the thinnest I have ever owned. Brand new, they were thinner than the ones that I had been washing and wearing for years.
Second, the fit is terrible. The sleeves are too short (the picture provided by Amazon is misleading), but the collar/neckline is too high, often revealing itself from underneath fully-buttoned buttondown dress shirts. They are also a bit short, more easily becoming untucked than my older undershirts.
As a result of these problems, I have come to prefer my OLD undershirts to the NEW ones, instead of the other way around.
I will likely be buying Hanes-brand undershirts from now on.
It's a t-shirt
Soft cotton t-shirt. Has held its size through a few washes. Does what it is supposed to.
Purchsed for Dad, aged 81
My 81 year old father has been wearing this style and brand for many years. In the past he bought them from JCPenny's when he travelled to the USA, but now asks me to buy them online for him. He has tried other brands but prefers these. He says they have not changed over the years and he is very happy with the purchse.
Undershirt vs. T-Shirt
The whole point of contention about these shirts is whether they are "thick enough". In order to easily address this issue, I suggest the Fruit of the Loom folks rename these shirts "undershirts". An undershirt is something you wear, appropriately enough, under something else. A t-shirt is something you would wear as, also appropriately enough, a t-shirt. I bought these shirts to wear under shirts, as is such, their thin material is aptly suited for my needs. However, if I was to wear this as a t-shirt, with nothing else over them, I could be fined with indecency in 12 states. Thin, yes. Constructed well, yes. Made to wear under another shirt, yes. Made to wear out on a night of the town with nothing else on, no. I only docked a star because I am unsure as to how the collar will hold up over time. So far, so good, but only time will tell.
