Reviews:
Great jacket for the price I paid! -$20 total
This jacket has served me well. For $15 (total $20 after s/h) it's a great spring jacket. It's actually higher quality than I expected, with a good number of pockets on the inside. It's pretty thin, but good enough to keep me warm in 50+ weather (Fahrenheit). I don't think I've tried it out in rain, although with water hitting it once or twice (maybe rain, can't recall?) it held up ok. I doubt it can be too water-proof in light of the thin material. Nonetheless, this serves my purposes.
Comfortable and light jacket
I was looking for something a bit heavier then a windbreaker, but lighter then most of my coats. This fits the bill perfectly.
The material is light enough that I can comfortably wear it in 50 or 60 degree weather, but heavy enough that it gives protection against the wind and rain.
The only two drawbacks for me were that it lacks a hood (useful for the rain) and it is open bottom (that is, there is no drawstring or other way to tighten up the base) which allows a breeze to come in. As long as you're aware of those drawbacks before buying it, it's an excellent jacket for the price!
Rain Jacket
My husband loves this jacket. It does not have the texture one usually associates with a rain jacket, so it can be worn in both rainy and not rainy weather.
Okay
There's actually green (i.e., instead of brown) color in it. I guess it depends on the maker, so even though I ordered a size S, it's still a little bit big, especially the arms are too long.
Weatherproof but only Against Some Weather.
I was very happy at finding this jacket on sale for [...]. It's cut very well and is arrayed with several useful pockets all fashioned to hide within the garment. The outer left breast pocket is zippered and hidden. Inside are two deep well pockets that will secure a cell phone, wallet, and keys.
The washing instructions are correct; use cold water and a low tumble dry to assure less shrinkage. The fabric was soiled once by animal fat yet was able to release the stain in the wash after a concentrated application of detergent.
In weather below 50 degrees I would recommend an additional under-layer of flannel, thermal, or wool. This jacket is merely a shell and should be treated as such. In wind it holds up very well even at 60mph. In the rain this jacket does not live up to its name. Even in Portland, Oregon's persistent mist, this garment soaks through to the skin and the moisture is obvious. This experience can be mitigated by use of a garment rated water repellent such as Scotch Guard.
Don't let negative reviews dissuade you from picking up a great bargain in a satisfactory jacket. This garment will deliver, just as long as you are not asking too much. Casual wear should be treated casually. After daily use this piece still holds up well and the stitching seems to be strong enough to sustain an entire season and be ready for next year as well.
