Not impressed
I can't believe folks are actually buying into sticking their kids in front of a TV all in the name of "learning". Have we learned nothing as a society? Although you may be impressed that your child can "read" remember that repetition can work miracles no matter what it is. If your child sees a word and recognizes it, how is that different from them seeing a dog or car or mom or dad and recognizing them? This isn't reading, it is visual accuity for representation. The proof is in what they can do outside of the words they are seeing on the screen...reading should work even with words that are not familiar. All kids should be exposed to books but get out with your children and PLAY. Teach them letters, numbers, sounds, and give them lots of encouragement; don't make them the local circus attraction! Please!!!!!
Kennedy Bell @ Juniorversity
I am a proud parent of an infant at Juniorversity Preschool in the city of Compton, Ca. Gwendolyn Crews is my daughters daycare provider and she has been using the "Your Baby Can Read" dvds. To my knowledge my daughter has been on the program for appoximately 14 months, I have seen such a remarkable change in her abilities and communication skills I had to purchase a set for myself. I'm really proud of my daughter, her daycare and your system. I speak so highly(and so much) of this program, people are running out buying the dvds and are looking into the daycare my daughter attends.
Worth every penny. !!! Excellent !! She reads everything !!!
I bought the 5 vol. set of DVD's for my daughter at 3 months. We watched 1 to 2 times a day. At 15 months she reads most words, even words not on the DVD. At 21 months her speech is clear and she reads everything. Babies exposed to written language learn to read as easily as they learn to talk. Thankful I found Dr. Titzer's gift to babies. Buy it now.
Excellent Video with Proven Success
This video is excellent. As an educator specializing in language acquisition, I know that this series of videos is in keeping with current language acquisition research. My daughter began watching them at 8 weeks and has absolutely loved them! She is now nine months old and reading her first words. (Obviously she can't speak yet, so when I hold up a card with the words `clap' or `arms up', `wave', `kiss', etc. she simple acts out what's on the card.) My daughter gets so excited every time I walk to the tv, in anticipation of her video. For those who do not feel that there is a "human touch" in these videos, I would suggest you watch the parents segment in which Dr. Titzer stresses that in order for a child to read well and enjoy reading, parents must interact with their children. This video is to supplement parental efforts in teaching children of the joy of reading. It is not meant to replace the children's bedtime stories or `cuddle time.' I would definitely recommend this video series to anyone with babies (or older children struggling with reading). More info can be found at www.yourbabycanread.com
human touch?
There is more to "reading" than word calling. Seems like "reading" at an early age should be a loving experience between the parent and the child. I began actually READING books to my 10 month old as a newborn. Very early on he learned to turn pages, make his own book selection and flip the book back to the front when the book was finished. These are all important book handling skills that don't require a video to promote. More importantly, my son is already learning that reading is a warm and fun cozy time to spend with his parents/siblings. It is a time that I cherish dearly in our busy lives and one that I am not willing to give up to the television.
