Reviews:
Latest CD purchase Excellent..... Gregg Allman is a joy to listen to on my hour ride to work Unique voice Gregg Allman continues to release great music. Gregg's increasingly craggy vocal makes his songs very unique.
This collection highlights many of his best known songs. It provides a solid introduction to the definitive bluesy and Southern rock, Gregg Allman's Style. Highly recommended.
Pretty much covers it Nice mix of tunes. If "Fear of Falling" were included, I'd have given it the 5th star. Otherwise, this about covers it. Some nice extra live tracks and an unreleased one to boot. Still Bringin' It! Gregg Allman can still bring down the house after about thirty five years in the biz. This album is well worth the price. Gregg Allman is an excellent entertainer on his own. One thing I was looking for on this album is whether or not he had any help from anyone else in the Allman Brothers Band. He did not. However, there are some notable musicians on this compilation, such as Jim Horn-the saxiphone player for Garth Brooks and Billy Joel in Central Park in 97. Also featured is Jimmy Hall on harmonica. Jimmy played on some of Charlie Daniels' live stuff. Other than Gregg Allman and these, I could not find any names that I recognized. Nice Late Solo Career Overview. If you like the Allman Brothers, then "The Best Of Gregg Allman" is a must have collection for any fan. The cd collects some real gems from his Epic records solo albums like "Just Before The Bullets Fly", "I'm No Angel" and "Searching For Simplicity". The smokey growl of Allman is in fine form on The rocking hit "I'm No Angel", "Slip Away", "Ocean Awash The Gunwale and "Brother To Brother". Three previously unreleased tracks are here as well. One can see that alot of care and effort went into this cd package. The liner notes are simply fantastic and each song gets a narrative from Gregg himself and finally some great photo's along with a bargin price makes this collection a real value. Gregg allman is without a doubt one of the truly under appreciated blues singers of the rock era. Just keep in mind that this collection covers 1987 to present. If you desire his early solo work You Should checkout the Gregg Allman "Masters Millennium Collection". The ultimate Solo Collection Is the out of print 2 disc Anthology set which can be found on e-bay or second hand cd shops if you look long enough. |
