Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
Independent artist Ingrid Michaelson's 2008 release Be Ok, a benefit album that will include previously unreleased songs, demos, covers and live recordings in addition to the title track (produced by Stacy Jones and Bill Lefler - Ronnie Day, Meg & Dia, Plain White T's). A portion of the proceeds will go to Stand Up To Cancer, an organization created to urgently move cancer research forward with the help of the public. She embarks on a national headlining "Be Ok" tour in late October 2008 and she designed a "Be Ok" necklace to be sold at all tour stops and online, donating all proceeds to SU2C. Her new song "Be Ok" and its video are part of the SU2C campaign.

Reviews:

what a disappointment
thought this would be a very good cd but was wrong. songs are simplistic and silly. don't waste your money.

Mostly filler, less Ingrid.
Ingrid Michaelson with her very loving welcoming voice, manages to create a CD that is mostly filler while she is on tour and busy with other matter. The CD itself is for a good cause, and even though I can be spotted in the album artwork. The CD offers less then average music from an upcoming (and already rising) artist who could offer a lot more. The next studio CD could be better then this if she offered no covers or acoustic versions of beloved songs. Ingrid Michaelson is in no trouble because of this CD because everything will be okay when she gets back in the tour bus or record an album that is worth mentioning.

Good Music, Great Cause
Be OK is an OK CD for a great cause. You will never mistake Be OK as a collection of the greatest songs ever recorded. The title track is one of the most lyrically repetitive songs that you will find; however, "Giving Up" doesn't do a lot better in this regard. "Keep Breathing" also falls into this unfortunate category. Michaelson's voice is still sweet without being sappy as on her debut CD Girls and Boys (see my review). She shines on covers of "Over The Rainbow" (a great choice for this CD by the way) and "Can't Help Falling In Love". "The Chain", one of the three live tracks, ends with an interesting vocal round. "Lady In Spain" is the other standout track. While it too is somewhat guilty of repetition, the accordion instrumentation and rhythmic vocal delivery make this easier to overlook. As for general instrumentation, Be OK is fairly sparse compared to Girls And Boys. Acoustic guitar is the main ingredient, and it fits most the song selections well. The real thing to like about Be OK, though, is its cause. Many artists are in the news for the outlandish or embarrassing acts so it is truly refreshing when one does something to give back. A portion of the proceeds from Be OK go to the organization Stand Up To Cancer. Most of us have seen the effects of cancer in ourselves, families, or friends. It is a great for an artist to try to make a positive difference. While Michaelson is not the first to ever do something like this, she deserves recognition for her efforts. So, I recommend Be OK. There are some truly good songs on the CD, and it supports a great cause. Join me in overlooking its flaws and contributing to Stand Up To Cancer. Download this: Lady In Spain

Absolutley Delightful
I really dig this album. It's upbeat but mellow at the same time and I absolutely love the cover of Somewhere over the rainbow.

A little short, but sweet...
Well, I'm always a little disappointed when singers release "new" CDs that have old songs on them, but overall this is pretty good.
