Reviews:

Years in the making, but worth the wait
A lot of people jumped on the negative bandwagon when Axl finally produced his next legacy. Sorry to say, they are missing out on a pretty good CD. First of all, if you are expecting the original GNR, that's your fault. The only member left of the original group is Axl, and you think you're going to get Slash, Izzy and the rest? Second, Axl exclusively owns the GNR name. If he wanted to get three buttholes and a goat, place them in the middle of the desert and call them GNR that's his business. Third, if you prejudged the CD based on someone else's bad opinion, shame on you. Did they or you actually listen to the CD? I know of a Florida radio personality who played less than four seconds of each track, disparaged each one, then declared the entire CD worthless junk. Really? The listening quality of an entire 70+ minute CD can be determined in less than four seconds per track? No wonder we get such drivel as we do on the radio today. I'm still trying to find out what factor allows Linkin Park's screeching and yelling and screaming to enter the arena of talent. If you listen to Chinese Democracy, you can still hear the original influence of GNR. The chord changes in the single tracks Better and Chinese Democracy still retain the old sound. Not to mention, guitar playing that has largely disappeared from today's music scene. LIsten closely to the rest of the CD, Axl's influence brings back the ghosts of the past. With the same old same old we are force fed each and every day, supposedly passing for rock, Chinese Democracy is a breath of fresh air. I have to give thanks to Axl for pushing the envelope and giving us something that breaks the weak, watered down status of today's so called rock. Or you can continue to follow the herd mentality, afraid to speak your own mind, afraid to judge something on its own merits, afraid to stand alone while missing out on an enjoyable experience.

Amazing!
It may sound as a blasphemy to some, but this is the most coherent and mature GNR album and the only one without fillers. It's a proof that GNR equals Axl Rose. Great sound, great melodies, rich arrangements, fantastic vocals. I think the one star reviews are not about the music. They are personal from frustrated fans.

Worst excuse for rock music I've ever heard
Bought it, returned it to the store one day later. The clerk did not appear surprised. Do you need more info than the title of the review? Velvet revolver owns this stuff. If there were no history behind this CD, it would plain stink - music that was so neurotically composed it doesn't know what the hell it wants to be or is trying to say. Metal? Retro? Punk? Industrial? With some artists, defying easy classification is a compliment, but not this time, because one label fits: CRAP. But, when compared to the height of expectations, it becomes not just a mediocre album, but one of the biggest letdowns in music history. Basically put: this is NOT Guns N Roses. This is an Axl side project, and not a very good one. It is bad, but it is also BORING. When Metallica lost their edge, they have the ability to be INTERESTINGLY bad. This is just ear pain and dullness. Axl's lost the plot. Hope he can maybe say the necessary apologies and get the original lineup back together, but I doubt it. They are playing NONE of these tracks on any radio station here, and there's no secret why...

5 stars Why?
BECAUSE I CANT TAKE IT OUT OF MY CD PLAYER. I saw GnR in the 80,s when they opened up for motley Crue and they blew them off of the stage. This was the Crue's big tour. GnR did all of this with attitude, no lights, no explosions. AT the time i thought to myself, who in the hell are these guys. I bought appetite the next day. There will never be another appetite. EVER. I have no intention of seeing the band on stage, ever again. I am now 41 years old. I only want to hear Guns N Roses come out of my speakers. Dont get me wrong i love the original lineup, but they are gone and you will never see them again. So the question is this. Was Guns N Roses- Slash and the rest of the group or was Guns Axl Rose. Well, just listen to Velvet Revolver and The New Guns N Roses and you tell me. Like I said I cant stop listening. this album will spark sales in their old albums.

Gun's are loaded
At first listen I thought it started out with a bang. 1. Chinese Democracy A+ 2. Shacklers Revenge A+ 3. Better A+ 4. Street of Dreams A+ You get the idea. It did slow down a bit but after further listening I think every song serves it's purpose. I know everybody misses (the band) however I believe the guitars are awesome. I really think Slash needs Axl more than Axl needs Slash.
