Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
After the popular breakthrough of 1998's I'm Alright, Jo Dee Messina returns with another testament to the power of positive singing. Practically every song on her third album plays like the musical equivalent of a self-help book, from the postbreakup recovery of the album-opening "Downtime" to the "be anyone you want to be" affirmation of the title track. The Boston-bred, Nashville-based Messina is a younger generation's Reba, with the conviction in her conversational phrasing redeeming the clichés of her material ("Live, love, seize the day") and transcending the mechanical schlock of so many of the arrangements. The duet with coproducer Tim McGraw on "Bring on the Rain" is an album-closing highlight. --Don McLeese

I'm Alright
I'm Alright

Jo Dee Messina's 1996 hit, "Heads Carolina, Tails California," was a likable, upbeat slice of Hot Country that promised, at the least, more such work. Her sophomore album, I'm Alright, however, shows whatever edges Messina once owned to have been sanded off by the Nashville pr...

A Joyful Noise

Just when you resign yourself to the fact that everything's probably been done in the world of holiday albums, a disc like A Joyful Noise comes along. Not that there's exactly anything new about the collection: with the exception of two originals, including the title track, the c...

Rascal Flatts has always been an anomaly in country music. Signed to the Disney label Lyric Street, they arrived in 2000 as essentially a trio (winning lead vocalist Gary LeVox fronted pin-up boy Joe Don Rooney on electric guitar and Jay DeMarcus on bass) that traveled and record...

Who I Am

OK, it's happened. Jessica Andrews, the teen sweetheart who steered clear of diva aspirations and bombastic production on her 1999 debut, Heart Shaped World, has succumbed. No, she's not dead. She's just artistically challenged, thanks to Byron Gallimore, the man who pushed Faith...

Heart Shaped World

Jessica Andrews was country's top-selling debut artist of 1999--quite an accomplishment for a 15-year-old girl and a record label that hadn't done much heavy lifting in Nashville. But Heart Shaped World sells itself, and not just to the same teenage girls who initially followed L...

Reviews:

Wow
Just JoDee again at her best! Love this woman's voice and pure song content - says it all, right to the point.

Gliding on Air
Jo Dee's set was one I'd always been curious about & have only recently purchased. The opener "Downtime" was co-written by Carolyn Dawn Johnson whose "Room with a View" CD is in my collection. It's a catchy hook-laden tune that keeps you tapping your toes. "That's the Way" is a bouncy tune that'll put a smile on your face despite the lyric about how to lose. The title track is catchy, "Are you gonna be a doctor & heal or go to heaven & touch God's face?" "If Not You" sparkles with a hook-laden pop chorus, "If not you, who is ever gonna make me happy?" "Closer" throbs and then the expansive chorus kicks in with Messina's voice sounding like it's gliding on air. The beat is strong, the guitars are loud on the joyful "Saturday Night." Tim McGraw joins Jo Dee on "Bring on the Rain," probably the slowest tune on the set. "Burn" is a good CD 6 years after its initial release, well worth finding. Enjoy!

Jo Dee Messina ROCKS!!!!
I love this CD!!! I have her other three ablums her "I'm Alright" CD, her Greatest Hits CD and her latest CD that just came out in April of 2005 "Delicious Surprise". I love Jo Dee Messina and most of all I love country music!!! I'm a huge fan!!!
