Green Gorilla, Monster & Me

We should be sick of Ralph Covert--the lone inhabitant of Ralph's World--by now. In only five years, he's put out six discs' worth of mostly the same hoot-worthy, hand-clappy, good-time, anytime, play-it-loud stuff. But here's the thing: Ralph never gets it wrong. As kids' musici...

Ralph's World

No matter where you enter Ralph's World, you can't help but want to fling the doors wide open: here, finally, is an artist who's made good on his promise to deliver kiddie songs that don't drive the big folks batty. The titular Ralph is Ralph Covert, a Chicago-based singer-songwr...

At the Bottom of the Sea

Ralph Covert may have sunk to the bottom of the sea for his second release, but he swished the sophomore slump aside in his wake. Here's a world as unwatered-down as its predecessor, Ralph's World, complete with psychic cats, caffeine-addicted parents, and heapin' helpings of b-b...

Peggy's Pie Parlor

Poke into Ralph Covert's fourth album for kids and a preoccupation with where to pin the blue ribbon overrides any fear of fruit-filling overload. Here, as in all three previous discs, forkfuls of genuine hilariousness--from the cut-up Broadway parody "Caveman" to the giddy gusto...

The Amazing Adventures of Kid Astro

With Kid Astro, the one-man musical universe that is Ralph Covert pulls up a chair alongside heroes and legends. Ralph's talent as a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, proved over the course of the first four Ralph's World discs and again here, plant him in the upper ec...

Here Come the ABCs [CD/DVD Combo]

No stranger to the realm of children's records, They Might Be Giants have seen success with their CD No! and the book-and-CD combo Bed, Bed, Bed. Their latest CD, Here Come the ABCs, offers up 25 alphabetically themed songs. However, as is their charming way, the two Johns (Flans...

Reviews:

A Gift to Children (and Adults too)
(Warning, this review is a template for all my Ralph's World reviews, but strewn throughout are specific comments pertaing to this specific album) Ralph's World is music performed by an adult, but in the voice of a child. Of course, this is the goal for all children's artists, but sadly, much of what is on the market is simplistic and condescending. Ralph's World is childlike through and through. His music looks at the world from a child's perspective, and delivers in songs both children and adults find so appealing. This is one of those rare artists who would be enjoyed by most generations if he were to, say, perform in a park or community theater. Kids, adults, even grandparents would get lost in the feel good music world of wonder, excitement, imagination, and goofiness children live in (and need). We played this album, along with Green Gorillas and Kid Astro at a b-day party, and the adults had no problems listening to the discs all day. I initially tried to compose a list of songs my two sons enjoyed the most, but, as is the case for all his albums we have, it turns out they like just about every one. But unlike clothes, books and toys they will outgrow, and do not interest adults, this album is simply good music even for adults. I have no problem listening to this album (and hitting replay after songs like Pony Boy, Dinosaur Rumble, Puddle of Mud, and Riding with No Hands) after the kids have long left the car or room. But don't get me wrong: Ralph's World is deservedly 100% for children. Our children deserve good songs, positive and realistic themes, and good musicianship. They get it all here, and we get to enjoy some of the benefits as well. I'm sure my boys will "outgrow" this, and all his albums some time (though they'll probably come back later), but I know this CD will remain in my collection. And I know I can make a greatest hits compilation strictly for myself using songs from this and other albums, filling the CD to its 80 minute capacity.

Happy Lemons rules
My son received this CD for his 1st birthday. He loves it so much I bought two more Ralph's World CD's! When he gets upset in the car I turn on his CD and he is happy and dancing. My 11 year old even has her favorites.

Great for my kids and doesn't drive me nuts
Catchy, cheery toons that keep your kids bouncing, dancing and entertained -- even after hearing it 50+ times. Never thought I'd say this about a kids CD, but as an adult even I find the songs catchy and entertaining. OK, now that my kids have made me hear this CD at least 100 times -- seriously! -- I don't enjoy it as much as I used to, but Happy Lemons is still my favorite kids CD.

Equally loved by kids & adults
I recently heard this album -- over and over and over! -- while visiting my twin toddler nephews. Even after the songs were permently embedded in my brain, I still love this album. It's musically rich, it's witty, it's sweet and catchy. I highly recommend it!

The whole family loves it
Another great effort from our hometown favorite Ralph's World. We love the opening track because our one year old and can sing along with the la la las. Sammy the Dog is hilarious and Pony Boy is just beautiful. Way to go, Ralph's World. Car rides are bearable now!
