      Christmas at the Brooklyn Tabernacle

Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
A fine selection of traditional carols mixed with contemporary takes on the birth of the Christ child, Christmas at the Brooklyn Tabernacle is a festive and joyful celebration of the season. True to their roots, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir pays homage to their ethnic diversity by including a variety of styles: the funky Caribbean influenced "First Day of the Son," the soulful R&B groove of "They Followed His Star," and the exquisitely executed classicism of "Carol of the Bells." Also included are the popular "Happy Birthday Jesus," performed by the children's choir division, and a magnificently arranged rendition of director Carol Cymbala's "You Shall Call His Name Jesus." Featured soloists include the well-loved voices of Charles Allen, Susan Cymbala, and Karen Melendez. --Paige La Grone

Reviews:

Accomplishing extraordinary things with ordinary people
I had this CD, loaned it out and never got it back, so I'm getting another copy. I hate to sound like a Grinch, a scrooge, or wet blanket, but 'Happy Birthday Jesus' is probably my least favorite selection on this CD. I know it is appealing for some, considering there is a cute child singing the solo, and that we celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25. However, for me, knowing that the Bible tells us Jesus existed from the beginning of time - even Old Testament times - it seems to diminish Him by stamping Dec 25, 0000 as Jesus' birthday. So why am I sounding so negative while endorsing this CD?!? The answer is resoundingly because of one song: The Light of A Million Mornings. This one song is the reason I've missed this CD so much. That song alone makes this CD worth every penny of the $5 it costs to purchase. The soloist has a FANTASTIC voice, and the melody is superbly written. For me, that song ascribes majesty and worship to our Creator in a way that is fitting to His name. The ending with the soloist and the full sound of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir (BTC) is awe and worship inspiring (I mean inspired to worship Christ). That is the mission of the BTC, and especially in that song, they really deliver! The BTC is made up largely of volunteers from diverse backgrounds, racial and socio-economic. While they do not have the precision of a professional highly trained choir, they accomplish a lot of great things with the resources they have. Most importantly, they fulfill the mission of encouraging their listeners to worship Christ in their unique fashion. They accomplish extraordinary things with ordinary people. This is a fruit bearing ministry. I hope to be able to visit BTC someday.

Christmas at Brooklyn Tabernacle
One would have to say that I am partial because the B'klyn Tab are my favorite gospel group. Their songs are always soothing and gives you a peace that passeth all understanding. They have testimonies in all their songs. It was new and exciting.

Christmas Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir CD
It is a wonderful CD! The music is fantastic. I love blended choral music and Brooklyn Tab fits the mode for me! Several songs I had not heard so it was a delight to hear new Christmas music.

PERFECT
IT'S A CLASSIC, EACH SONG IS PERFECTLY PERFORMED. I THINK THIS IS THE BEST CHRISTMAS CD I'VE HEARD. THE VOICES, THE CHORUS, THE MUSIC... SUPERB!

Outstanding Christmas Album
The transition between the first two tracks speaks volumes about the quality of the engineering and production of this CD. In fact, the placement of the tracks on the album add to the overall experience of the this Christmas album. That being said, I will admit that the BTC has done better, but there is little to complain about with this CD; it achieves its purpose--it glorifies God and uplifts your spirit! Of course, there are complaints about "Happy Birthday, Jesus." How can this be? Oh, how cute! Yes, I purchased this CD primarily for this track. Despite the age of this CD (now over ten years), this single track remains on airplay. This CD is well worth the few dollars that are required. Buy it...you won't be disappointed!
