Sleeping Problems No More
Delta Sleep System is a very good product. I tend to be able to go to sleep pretty well - think Beetle Bailey. But my husband would take 30-40 minutes to go to sleep. He has no trouble going to sleep now. If I didn't the proof myself I would never believe it. But it works really well. We even take it with us when we travel.
Terrible
Well so much for a sleep system. Four hours later and I'm still wide awake. Despite the warm milk and the anti-anxiety meds and reading the boring book. I had complete faith in this system and thought it was going to solve my sleeping problem. It ends up being just plain frustrating and creating yet another barrier to sleep due to the frustration and anger it causes.
Did not work - actually causes me to wake during night
I so wanted to love this. Out of 100+ reviews, only 28 had negative things to say. I thought the negatives were flukes. Sadly, I understand the negative reviews now, because I have a negative opinion of the Delta Sleep System as well.
What didn't I like? As some reviewers noted, it does sound spooky and unsettling. Sort of like a futuristic film sound-track that makes you feel anxious, rather than comforted. Now I know it isn't meant for out-right listening, you're supposed to let it transport you off to deeper sleep. The idea is that these sounds are engineered for your brain, not so much your ear. So I kept trying it over and over, night after night, and I kept getting less restful sleep each night. I found that the lack of consistency of the volume also kept waking me up through-out the night. The volume was quiet and peaceful in one segment, yet a few moments later would be so much louder that it would startle me awake. Also, as another reviewer commented, waking up and hearing these odd sounds playing is a bit disconcerting.
My main problem which I wanted to solve with this sleep cd was that I don't hit deep sleep stage enough each night. I was not having problems falling asleep, nor staying asleep. With this cd playing, however, I woke up all night long - over and over again. So it compounded my problems rather than solving them.
Sorry. I wanted to love this. I wanted it to fix my sleep issues so I could reach deeper restful sleep, but I'll have to keep looking. Maybe the 28% of us who gave it less than sterling reviews are wired differently than the rest of the reviewers who loved it. Definitely test drive it before you buy, in case you're one of us in the 28%.
ugh, not so good
Save your money, a radio turned off station will simulate the 'static', an upstairs use of plumbing at 2 a.m. will do the same for the water sounds. Any new age synthesiser CD can replicate The Delta Sleep System. Listing made for one of the longer nights of trying to sleep
Depends on your personal preference
Just remember, this is NOT going to work for everyone. It's not a magic pill, and it's not going to cure your insomnia.
That being said, I find that it works very well when I'm trying to fall asleep in my car on my lunch break, or if I'm trying to fall asleep on a plane. Whether or not it's a placebo effect, I have no idea. There have been some times when I'm convinced it facilitated me falling asleep when I wouldn't have thought possible, and other times when I haven't seemed to get any deeper of a sleep than normal. Either way, it has always helped me doze, at the very least.
Per these reviews, some people seem to find the non-melodic nature of this to be distracting. For myself, if I know music VERY well, then having a melody of some type doesn't bother me. But the purpose of the non-melodic nature is so that your mind isn't active, trying to track that melody. So, I find the meandering non-melodic nature to be very soothing.
Also, I have NO idea what those critics are talking about with huge volume changes. I have listened to this CD dozens of times, and have never heard any Phantom of the Opera-esque, Cathedral organ-type volume changes. If you're listening to the music so loud that the slow wafting change of volume is waking you, then it's far too loud for the purpose of falling asleep anyway.
Like anything else: use in moderation. It's not going to shut you off like a light. It's only intended to help facilitate sleeping. Keep it low, in the background, don't rely on it, and you'll find it may help you sleep.
