Flavors Of Entanglement

Though the mainstream might have all but abandoned Alanis Morrissette since her mid-90s breakthrough as the MTV grunge generation's Madonna, she has forged on with a handful of albums of a reasonably steely consistency, although even kindly ears would recognize her output since J...

Reviews:

I "Offer" my opinion...
"Precious Illusions"? Great song...no need to go there. Most of us have heard it already. What about "Offer"? I'm constantly amazed by Alanis' talent with the soft, thoughtful, and deliberately intimate songs she's written. For instance, who can forget the intensity and INTIMACY in her Unplugged performance of "You Oughta Know" and "Uninvited"???? "Offer" is reminiscent of "Sorry 2 Myself" and "Hands Clean (Acoustic)" from the other "Precious Illusions" single CD. Simply beautiful.I first heard "Bent 4 U" when I downloaded it from Kazaa as a live performance. I loved it and was desperately seeking a studio cut of this song (this was quite a few months ago). Well, here it is, and I couldn't be more pleased. If Alanis continues down this path of growth, she will become a legend before we know it.

Alanis keeps the great B-sides coming!
As you can see from Amazon.com's info, this Australian import single is part two for the song Precious Illusions, off of Alanis' recent album Under Rug Swept. The other two songs you get are Offer and Bent 4 U. Precious Illusions is the album version while the other two songs are bonus tracks that Alanis recorded before paring down the final track list of Under Rug Swept. Offer is a slower song in which Alanis asks, "Who am I to feel blue / look at my family and fortune" -- the song is rather introspective and runs about 4 minutes. It took a few listens for it to grow on me. Bent 4 U has lines that say, "I have waited for you and adjusted for you and I am done / I have deferred to you and enabled you and I am done" -- I don't like to interpret lyrics for other people but I see it as "I'm done being bent over backwards for you." Bent 4 U is almost 5 minutes long. Included are the lyrics for Precious Illusions (a great song in its own right). If you had to choose between part 1 and part 2, I'd choose part 1 but that means I'm still glad to have this cd, I just prefer the first part. If you can afford it and (like me) don't have the patience to wait for the EP, pick this up, you won't be dissapointed -- all of Alanis' songs are unique and individual, and always wonderful to listen to.
