Picture This
Picture This

After three years as the second guitarist and warm-up singer for Albert Collins, Debbie Davies released her first solo album, Picture This. Combining Collins's "ice-pick" guitar style with the warmer folk-blues vocals of a Bonnie Raitt, L.A.'s Davies is good enough at both styles...

Blues Blast
Blues Blast

Any blues fan dedicated to live music will testify that when musicians play with their peers, the energy rises a few notches. That's the concept behind this meeting of the minds hosted by guitarist Debbie Davies. Fellow string-benders Tab Benoit and Coco Montoya (both have worked...
Homesick for the Road
Homesick for the Road

Perhaps taking their cue from Alligator's 1985 Showdown! with Albert Collins, Robert Cray, and Johnny Copeland, Telarc brought together three fairly young veterans on the contemporary blues circuit for this session. Tab Benoit, schooled in blues in Baton Rouge, steps forward to s...
Round Every Corner
Round Every Corner

Guitarist and singer Debbie Davies often edges into rock or country on her fourth album, but there's plenty here for the blues fan to like. From the rock-out shuffle of "A.C. Strut" to the brash cover of Otis Rush's "Homework" to the ironic humor of "Such a Fine Man," Davies firm...

10 Days Out (Blues from the Backroads)/ (CD/DVD)

This "back-to-the-roots" road-trip documentary CD/DVD from blues-rocking guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd can be viewed in two ways--it's either the culmination of a long-held desire to promote and play with some unheralded blues veterans before they pass away (as six had already d...

Forgiven

Los Lonely Boys have an impressive sound, on CD or in concert. Sound will never be a problem for this group, but although Forgiven is well executed technically, Los Lonely Boys have been doing the same song over and over for years. If you have listened to three of their songs, yo...

Reviews:

Hot, smokin' Texas guitar--who'd a thought she's a girl?
I am a guitarist, and a blues afficianado of many years, and I say with authority, this is a fantastic album. Forget that Davies is a woman---she's a great guitarist, no matter what. This is Texas blues---chugging rhythms, biting tone, extended solos galore. This is one of my favorites in my collection of hundreds.

Blues from a womanly point of view.....
Real deal blues from a Woman's perspective played in an a style that is not the least bit feminine. Women, especially those who have been through the rough times of divorce will especially identify with "A Mother's Blues" a song about a woman who re-discovers herself through her children.Add an aggresive style of guitar playing and songwriting to the mix, put this in your CD player and enjoy. Also recommended is Debbie Davies "Tales from the Austin Motel".

Great follow up. Strong horns
A great follow up album to Picture This, Davies vocals improve on this record. Her vocals can be plaintive, as on A Mother's Blues, or wail as they do on the faster, bouncier numbers. The Miami Horns offer great backup and help make this album.
