Reviews:
13 Year Seach Way back in 1991 is when I first heard Clinton Gregory's music. A traditionalist Country Music fan, I fell in love with the purity of the man's voice as a contemporary mobile disc jockey. The song that stuck with me was "Who Needs It". A soulful ballad of a man hurt by love but unable to stop himself from loving someone. It stayed in my ear, mind and heart and I looked for the song in retail stores for years. I finally found online at Amazon but a shipping problem kept it from me once again but I never forgot it. The man's music is real, pure American Country Music. His talent as a fiddler as second to none and if you love traditional Country Music or any real Country Music you must have this man's music!! One of Best Country Entertainers Clinton Gregory is the traditional definition of a country music musician, with his roots coming from bluegrass, country folk music, and rockabilly. He is a fifth generation fiddler, that has taken the family traditional to the top of the mountain. Once a great bright light on the future horizon of country music, he somehow fell between cracks, just short of becoming a country music star. I am not sure why he fell from stardom shortly after signing with Polygram, about the same time Tim McGraw signed with sister label Mercury Nashville. It isn't for his lack of talent. One only has to listen to songs like "Who Needs It" (Shelby Lynn once said that was her favorite country song) and you will be hooked to this great voice and traditional but unique sound. "Look Who's Needing Who," "Play Ruby Play," "If a Broken Heart Could Kill," and "I Wish it Were That Easy Going Home," are just great fiddle-spiced tunes, with a mix of music somewhere between country, bluegrass, and jazz. Traditional but supercharged, with perhaps one of the better fiddle players to pass through Nashville, but then that starts to be my opinion, which could start an argument. Prior to Clinton's retreat (late 1995) after his failure to hit the spotlight, many folks of country thought that Clinton Gregory and his band, was one of the best shows in country music. My wife when in to labor, in 1993, at one of Clinton Gregory's shows, so that is a time line to index a major life event for us. I wished he'd get his talent out to the public again, as we truly miss him. "Look who's needing who," It is us Clinton, your country music fans. "She (you singing it) Takes the Sad out of Saturday Night." He will be a classic, whether or not he makes a second attempt at commercial stardom. This cd "Freeborn Man," might explain where he's been hiding lately. Buy it, you will enjoy his style. He is one of the best singers I have ever heard I think th at Clinton Gregory Is one of the best entertainers out there in the music business today. He puts on a wonderful show. He is so energetic. He is electrafing. He has a very soft spoken voice. Sinxerly his fan Kimberly S. Wetzel |
