Room for Squares
Room for Squares

Singer-songwriter John Mayer fills his debut, Room for Squares, with pep talks to and advertisements for himself. Even when questioning his young life, Mayer's doubts come off glib; not one second of "Why Georgia" convinces that "the stirring in my soul" keeps the artiste awake a...
Heavier Things
Heavier Things

John Mayer's big-label debut was a multiplatinum breakthrough success whose sensual anthem "Your Body Is a Wonderland" scored him an unlikely Grammy for Best Pop Vocal. That out-of-the-box succes--and more than a few critics grousing that Mayer's muse was cloned from Dave Matthew...
The Village Sessions
The Village Sessions

If John Mayer has ants in his pants--and, given his many projects and the amount of music he releases in any given year, it appears that he does--his fans aren't complaining. Nor should they be. The Village Sessions, a six-song EP that retools favorites from Mayer's highly regard...
Continuum
Continuum

Continuum is about as apt a title as it gets for John Mayer's third studio disc. Every element, from the peerless guitar playing to the plainspoken poetry of the lyrics to the breathy-sincere singing, makes a return from previous efforts. But to weakly pronounce this another wort...
Try! John Mayer Trio Live in Concert
Try! John Mayer Trio Live in Concert

Longtime listeners have seen it coming: it was only a matter of time before John Mayer dropped the pop star pretense and proved he could really bring it. Chalk it up to one too many Dave Matthews comparisons, or the cupcake-sweet residue stuck to his image after the success of "...

Any Given Thursday

As/Is (2CD)
As/Is (2CD)

The best version of John Mayer is him in concert. Live, Mayer often extends his songs to upwards of 10 minutes, feeling every chord he plays as he grooves across the stage. Mayer's talent exceeds what any listener can grasp from his studio albums, and as such the As/Is album is a...
John Mayer - Any Given Thursday
John Mayer - Any Given Thursday

All the qualities that have made John Mayer a rising star are on display in this concert package: an interesting voice; tunes that are catchy but still have some depth; an appealingly casual slacker attitude; and enough grit to separate him from the namby-pamby singer-songwriter ...
Where The Light Is:John Mayer Live In Los Angeles
Where The Light Is:John Mayer Live In Los Angeles

The much anticipated double CD of John Mayer in concert includes all the guitar player's hits, and the sound is unique. But the album is nothing more than a compilation of the different facets of Mayer, whose performance is divided into his three major stages. In the first part, ...

Reviews:

"Comfortable" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
"Comfortable" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Ha ha...that probably sounds a bit hyperbolic, no? I swear, though, it is absolutely arresting in both its melody and its lyrics. I first heard "Comfortable" back in high school (I was one of those Atlanta kids who were lucky enough to catch John Mayer on the upswing), and it nearly stopped my heart, it was so beautiful and tragic. It still has the same effect on me, and I highly recommend it! It's the most original, poignant, and REAL break-up song you'll ever hear. Absolutely gut-wrenching. Amazing. Face-meltingly beautiful. The rest of the album is also great, but "Comfortable" can only be found on "Inside Wants Out," so I wanted to highlight it in particular. "Love Soon" is a fabulously happy song--perfect for doing that little butt-wiggle dance in your car seat. (You know the one...don't lie!) And "Neon" is also one of my favorites; it tells the story of a girl who's addicted to the nightlife. Again, great tune, great lyrics. (As a sidenote: I once caught an ex-boyfriend of mine singing along with this song incorrectly. According to him, "she's always buzzing just like--Leon, Leon!" Not "neon," mind you...Leon. Hehehe!) As I mentioned (and as other people have said), you can find some of these songs in more studio-ified versions on "Room for Squares." But this EP has a beautiful stripped-down quality to it which I love--so if you think you'd prefer that, go for it. And no matter who you are or what your tastes, you simply MUST download "Comfortable." It'll change your life. All hail John Mayer!

Why does he hold a guitar on his album covers?
There is guitar (horrible at that) in like two songs the rets is like listening to Backstreet Boys.

i am a fan!
i have been a fan of john mayer since room for squares, but had never gone back and purchased this album! i really like the less "polished" versions of "no such thing" and "my stupid mouth"...acoustic versions more stripped down...and there are a couple of other great songs, like "love soon" that you won't find on the other major releases...if you are a fan of john mayer, definately pick this one up.

Good
I have been buying and listening to John Mayer's music since I saw him live on Eric Claptons Crossroads Guitar Festival one & two and from the reviews so when I heard Inside Wants Out I didn't think it was as good as the reviews but is not bad either so don't regret buying the CD .

What is there to say?
I of course bought this long after I had bought his major studio release. Many people look at this as just a previous recording of "Room For Squares". I don't, I think of it has a retelling, many times we re-read a book or re-watch a movie we love to experience different aspects. This gives us the chance to do that in a different way. I like the more mellow sound of the songs here just as much as I like the popped up versions on "Room".
