Yawn. Overproduced, overly wordy, prettyboy country. Wayne has an okay voice, but he doesn't seem fully in control of his product, and has an unfortunate penchant for needlessly elaborate, stagily pseudo-intellectual material, like "True Friends," a song about two childhood friends who meet in jail -- one's a prison guard, and the others a convict -- and "Papers Angels," a shamelessly sentimentalized issue song about abducted children. Oh, and then there's also "I Love You This Much," a weeper about some guy trying to get close to his distant dad, complete with swelling string sections and gushing vocals. Yawn, again. Memo to Nashville: can we just agree to keep the predictable, made-for-Dr. Phil, sensitive-guy, psychobabble songs down to a minimum, at least from here on? Maybe add a little twang from time to time as well? Thanks. (Axton)

Probably the Best CD I Own!
I didn't buy this CD until the summer of 2005, and boy do I regret not buying it sooner. I remember when Jimmy Wayne came out with his first single "Stay Gone" in 2003 and I liked his singing abilities and thought it was a great song, but I stereotyped Jimmy as being a young pretty boy trying to be a big star. I hate fake people who are in the public eye trying to be something that is not themselves and I just had no interest in purchasing an album from someone like that. Then later on in the year I heard his single "I Love You This Much" and was blown away by the song, but I had no idea that it was Jimmy Wayne singing it. I made a note to myself to try and find the album whenever I found out who the singer was, but I guess I didn't get around to it. Then in summer 2005 I heard the song on the radio and just happened to catch the name of the singer and a few days later I bought the CD. I loved every song on this album. Having fallen in love with this album, I decided to go onto the internet and watch some of his music videos (Which are also spectacular) and I came across his biography. I was in tears after I read it and realized that the songs he wrote or co-wrote were "real" songs that he wrote from "real" experiences. I was also amazed to find out that he was in his early thirties. When I first saw him I thought he looked like a seventeen year old pretty boy (Sorry about that Jimmy). I have developed very high respect for Jimmy Wayne as an artist and a person. He appears to be real, grounded, and truthful through his music. That is a very hard trait to find in music artists today. I can't wait until his next album.

Country music with a soul
When I first bought this album, I listened to it all the way through. I was blown away by the sincerity and honest songwriting as well as by Jimmy Wayne's unique and soulful way of singing. This album is a must-have that showcases a very talented and compelling singer-songwriter who has something important to say.

Nashville's best male Vocalist
Upon buying this CD, be sure to pop it into your computer, and watch the (approx.) 20 minute interview, as Jimmy Wayne will enlighten you, to a more indepth understanding of his music. And how many of his songs came about, for his self-titled Freshman album. Mixed with the newer sounds of Country music, along with some Southern blues, each song has it's own flavor. And while "Stay Gone" still proves to be Jimmy's strongest (radio) single, there are other songs, that could have been strong contenders, for single releases as well. "After You" a song about remembering a loved-one from the past, "Tresspassin'" which reminds us of our younger days, and what it was like to 'dance in the moonlight' could have easily made the air-waves, as well as "The Rabbit" which tell's the story, of a troubled family, dealing with domestic violence, resonates a powerful message, thru it's strong and up-beat tempo! On October 17, 2005, Jimmy Wayne along with co-writer, Chris Lindsey, won an ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Puplishers) Award, for "You Are" which is included, on this album. There's no doubt in my mind, that Jimmy Wayne is Nashville's most polished vocalist to date. And I look forward to hearing more great music, from this artist.

Best of the new young country artists...
Jimmy Wayne not only has a beautiful voice and awesome song-writing ability, his music touches the heart. I suspect this is because he's "been there" and in the process has overcome obstacles that would destroy most humans. This is an absolutely perfect debut album and "Paper Angels" and "I Love You This Much" still reduce me to tears. I think Jimmy is going to be unstoppable and I wish him nothing but the best and all the success he deserves. There's so much new talent coming out of Nashville but Jimmy is quite simply the best because he has it all.
