Reviews:
Lives Up To It's Title I had such a negative reaction to Eric Bibb's current album Get On Board that I had to dig out an older CD to hear what it was that attracted me to his music in the first place. So I pulled Good Stuff out of the stack and found that to my ears it still lives up to its title.
On this CD, Bibb is recording with mostly Swedish musicians for a Swedish label that aims to reproduce voices and instruments as they are. In my opinion, it succeeds admirably. Good Stuff is bluesy, soulful, and mostly mellow. My favorite cut is Don't Ever Let Nobody Drag Your Spirit Down but I also greatly enjoy Too Much Whisky, Nothin' Like You Used To Do, and the Cajun-flavored All of My Love.
The liner notes in the useful booklet that accompanies the CD state that Eric Bibb and Needed Time have recorded another album for the Swedish Opus 3 label. Good Stuff is good enough, so I guess I'll have to get that one as well. Those who like acoustic blues are almost sure to like this. If you are one who does, give Good Stuff a listen while it is still available. Great Music but really mellow towards the end I picked up this CD after being exposed to Eric Bibb on the Sisters & Brothers disc. This CD is really good and I like it. The one comment worth mentioning is that it gets pretty mellow half way through and slows down quite a bit. This isn't a CD full of foot stompin accoustic blues although it kinda starts out that way.It is still really good none-the-less. Since life is all about expectations, I thought it useful to let you know what you're getting: a great accoustic cd with soulfull delivery of bluesy/gospelly material. Authentic Acoustic Blues! I take my hat off to Mr. Bibb! The CD touched my very soul! Muddy, John Lee, and Son House have got to be looking down with proud at that young man! Get it, you won't regret it! Simply Wonderful Eric Bibb and Needed Time's "Good Stuff" is one of the best CDs I have listened to in a long time. Their gentle treatment of Blues and Gospel creates a wonderful atmosphere (this is further enhanced by the fact that the CD was recorded in a special studio - the music as it was recorded wasn't modified in any way!). Whereas Keb' Mo' (unfortunately) seems to be drifting away from Blues towards Easy Listening, Eric Bibb has stayed closely related to Blues, keeping the Blues alive and well for all of us to enjoy. Acoustic Blues at its best! Good Stuff!! doc_ENT Saw Eric in a small venue concert and had to have this CD. Great music to listen to. Will make you smile, tap your foot and feel good, no matter what kind of music you lean toward. Check it out. |
