      Autobiography

Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
You hear a lot of echoes throughout Ashlee Simpson's Autobiography, but her big-eyed, bright-smiled sister Jessica isn't behind a one of them. That'll come as no surprise to fans and anyone who has caught the "darker" Simpson sister on MTV, which is responsible for hurtling the hard-edged "Pieces of Me" onto radio playlists across the country and creating a mini frenzy over this CD's content. Stoking the gossip-fueled flames is track three, "Shadow." On it, 19-year-old Ashlee spills her childhood resentment over her sister's attention-gulping career, ending up on a conciliatory note that has the surprising effect of making the Simpson divas' drama seem believable ("Everything's cool now…and the past is in the past," she sings). But serious music fans ought not to dilly-dally with the celeb stuff and dive right in, because this disc dishes up more than a lot of us bargained for. "LaLa" revs up the unsuspecting by way of out-and-out lustiness, "Love for Me" lays on the lovelorn angst thick, and the title track is a take-no-prisoners, love-me-or-leave-me rock anthem. Rippling throughout are cunningly malleable vocals, bending here for a kittenish Gwen Stefani effect, stretching there to sound Christina Aguilera-cathartic. Sweeter moments call to mind the indie sensibilities of Jill Sobule. More than others of her reality-show insta-star ilk, Ashlee Simpson's is an autobiography that shouts, "bring on the sequel." --Tammy La Gorce

Few will accuse JoJo of being a musical revolutionary--hers is a streetwise, modern R&B sound that owes a lot to Destiny's Child and a little to opposite-ends-of-the-genre artists Angie Stone and Aaliyah--but there is a freshness about her. This, on mulling it over, is a quality ...

Reviews:

Terrible....plain and simple
Ok...Who gave this girl a record contract anyway?? Her voice is scratchy and her TRYING to be punk is just something to laugh at. The ONLY reason why she is considered famous is because of her sister Jessica who actually has a great voice, and that WONDERFUL performance on SNL which, i LOVED by the way! I read one review that said she only got a deal because of her looks and because of her family....ok I'm not buying into the looks...she looks like a dunk if you ask me. The songs on the CD made me laugh, she is pure bubble gum pop...not rock or "punk". The CD is NOT good at all

Much better than I expected!!
Wow! Ashlee Simpson really is a great singer! I have both her cd's, and at first I didn't think this album would be too good, but I might actually like it better than her other one titled "I am me." Some of her songs are really energetic, like "lala" and "love me for me" and even "autobiography" can be counted as a very pop song. The other songs are just normal, pretty songs with pretty tunes. Here's what I think about each song: 1.Autobiography - 9/10 cool! This song is a perfect beginning to her album. In this song she kind of talks about herself, and tells what her life is like, and her personality. 2. Pieces of me - 10/10 beautiful! It's a great first single! The music video is good, too, and the chorus is very attractive. 3. Shadow - 8.5/10 This song is pretty good, too, but the chorus isn't too good, and i just thought this song should be rated somewhere between 8 and 9 out of 10. I do like the lyrics. 4. La la - 9/10 nice! Very upbeat! I like upbeat songs a lot, they're just very catchy. I especially like how this song begins. 5. Love makes the world go round - 8/10 This song is ok, but i usually skip it. It just isn't really my type of song, but it does have good lyrics. 6. Better off - 10/10 This one is a really good one! At first i didn't like it too much, but then it just started to grow on me. I really like the chorus, which is the best part, and it's good to sing along to. 7. Love me for me - 10/10 Awesome song! I love everything about it, except perhaps one tiny part. But this song is BY FAR my favorite! It has an awesome beat and tune, and it makes me want to dance when I play it! Definitely worth a listen if you're a fan of upbeat music like this song. 8. Surrender - 10/10 This is another goodie! It has a cool beat, just like the previous one. I especially love the pop sound that this song has. 9. Unreachable - 8/10 This one is just ok. It's a song similar to "Love makes the world go round" and yes, it is kind of a pretty song, but there's something about it that makes not want to listen to it, but it has nice lyrics. 10. Nothing new - 10/10 Once again, another goodie! The chorus in this has a really cool beat, and the lyrics are very interesting. I really like the tune in the chorus also, it sounds strangely familiar. 11. Givin' it all away - 7/10 Not that great. It's way too short, and the verses are very short. To make it more than 2 minutes long, she just ends up singing the chorus a few times. 12. Undiscovered - 8/10 This one is ok, but not my favorite. It's a sad song, and I only like certain types of sad songs, and this isn't really one of them. The tune does get pretty, though. Overall, great cd! If you like Ashlee Simpson a lot, I'm sure you'd like this album! It's definitely worth a buy! And thanks for reading my review :)

Better Than Expected
I enjoyed most of the songs on this CD. Autobiography has pretty bad lyrics, but it's sort of catchy, and LaLa has horrid lyrics, but again, it's catchy. I honestly think that most of the people who posted ratings are more into rock music. Sort of like my dad- who listens to Iron Maiden and such.. Anyone who likes pop music would like at least one track on this album. I really think that Ashlee has a good voice. People say that we shouldn't listen to Ashlee Simpson, but we should listen to Alicia Keys, but I listen to both. Seriously, I don't listen to music to critisize it- I listen to it because it's catchy, and passes the time. I'm not looking for a message that will touch my heart in each song- I just want to rock out and have fun, upbeat music, and I really think that that's what Ashlee brings in this album. But whatever- that's just what I think. You don't have to agree with me.

I really like Ashlee!
This CD is very good (except for the song Lala, which is stupid and immuture a perverted, and the song Autobiography, which is silly ans has stupid lyrics also). But the other songs are very good...I loove Ashlee's voice and her music is very catchy, I also enjoyed her second CD I Am Me... Here are my Ratings of each song, on a scale of 1/5 1 lowest, 5 highest... 1.Autobiography 1/5...NO GOOD! With good beat though, she cussesa lot for pop... 2.Pieces Of Me 5/5... Really good beat, everybody knows this song... 3.Shadow 4/5... Pretty good, good song... 4.Lala 1/5... [...]! 5. Love Makes The World Go Round 5/5... Really catchy beat, love the how it starts good song... 6.Better Off 5/5... Great Song LOVE it... 7. Love Me For Me 55/5... LOOOOOOOOOOOVE this song good as L.O.V.E, and Invisble... 8.Surrender 5/5... great guitar solo, love it... 9.Unreachable 4/5...Pretty good song, good vocals... 10. Nothing New 5/5...Love it!!!Great beat, catchy!... 11.Giveing It All Away 5/5... Like it a lot!!! 12.Undiscovered 4/5...Pretty Good, pretty.... Overall GREAT CD except for Lala, and Autobiography

OMFG!!! THE, LYKE, BEST ALBUM EVARRR!!!!!111
Oh, Ashlee! You are so wonderful! Your music has so much meaning! And your voice? Forget Madonna, Aretha, or Alicia Keys, she blows them right out of the water! Buy this now!!! Actually, I was blowing smoke up your a.s.s. in that first paragraph and the title. The exact opposite of what I said there is the truth. Aretha, Madonna, and Alicia Keys are real artists with talent and songwriting skills, and Ms. Franklin could smoke Ashleeeee's vocal chords with one high note. Please, do music a favor. Do not buy this if you care about your ears. Please: buy something, ANYTHING! Just not this.
