By Heart: Piano Solos
By Heart: Piano Solos

"By heart" is a succinct and accurate appraisal of a lovely, low-key album of 11 piano solos (with occasional string embellishments) and a concluding vocal track. By Heart paints a picture of Brickman as a thoughtful, sometimes pensive, creative soul who quietly cherishes idyllic...
Picture This
Picture This

Pianist Jim Brickman would like you to picture a world that is prettier, more contented, and more emotionally in-tune than the world you probably see through your windshield each day. It may be just wishful thinking, but Brickman's music indulges in the dream anyway, and those in...
Destiny
Destiny

Destiny offers evidence that Jim Brickman has acquired a serious interest in redefining his position on the pop-music spectrum. The lone vocal selection "Valentine"--sung by Martina McBride--that adorned his breakthrough Picture This received a warm embrace from soft-pop radio fo...

Love Songs & Lullabies
Love Songs & Lullabies

Created, it would seem, as a special-occasion soundtrack for love-struck dreamers, the eighth career recording from Jim Brickman is a rewarding collection of eight instrumentals and four vocal tracks--one that will especially be appreciated by the pianist's longer-term fans. Beyo...
Simple Things
Simple Things

Genuinely moving at times, a bit sentimental at others, pianist Jim Brickman's seventh career release is ultimately a worthwhile, satisfying package. Adhering to the simplicity theme, Brickman front-loads the disc with 10 melodic, nonvocal tracks (a gracious nod to longtime fans)...
Escape
Escape

Escape, the 12th studio recording from pianist Jim Brickman, comes from a new label (SLG Records instead of Windham Hill) but follows a familiar formula, mixing instrumentals (nine of them) with radio-oriented vocal selections (three) in an effort to snare the largest possible au...
Jim Brickman - Greatest Hits
Jim Brickman - Greatest Hits

While many Jim Brickman fans claim a stronger allegiance to the pianist/songwriter's non-vocal works, even they have to concede that the Cleveland native has an uncanny touch for crafting catchy, affecting love songs. Many of Brickman's best-known heart-tuggers are on display her...
The Gift
The Gift

Jim Brickman's 1997 holiday package is all satin bows and glowing hearth embers, precisely the approach his romantically inclined legions would have wished him to take. Those with less sentimental ears might argue that at times the pianist's approach is a touch too sweet. "Joy to...

Reviews:

My favorite Jim Brickman CD
I really like Jim Brickman's music, and I like his non-vocal work the best. That's why I like "No Words," as there are no words to get in the way of his piano playing. Is his music for all occasions? No, but it's great for relaxing or for having in the background while you're trying to concentrate on other things. That's probably why I like the non-vocal songs the best. My daughters also use his music to fall asleep at night. When we're on car trips and they get tired, my youngest always asks for the "nighttime music" which consists of Jim Brickman's "Love Songs & Lullabies" and "No Words." This CD was unavailable for a while, but it's back and at a very economical price. If you like piano music that is a little easier to relax to than George Winston, this should suit your tastes just fine!
