Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
Grammy-nominated and multi-talented singer songwriter Lisa Loeb takes fans on a colorful journey back in time with the reissue on CD of The Purple Tape, Loeb's first recording, made in 1992. This double disc includes the earliest recordings of several Loeb favorites including 'Do You Sleep,' 'Snow Day,' 'Train Songs,' 'This,' 'Airplanes' and 'It's Over.' In addition to the original tracks from The Purple Tape, the CD version includes a full second disc with live, acoustic performances of 'Snow Day,' and 'Stay (I Missed You),' along with an in-depth new interview with Lisa, where she ruminates on the early days, talks about the songs and the songwriting process and offers up sage advice to the next generation of emerging artists.

The Very Best of Lisa Loeb
The Very Best of Lisa Loeb

A dozen years after exploding onto the scene with "Stay (I Missed You)" from the Gen-X movie classic Reality Bites, Lisa Loeb--one of the most recognizable musical artists of the last decade--premieres not only her first "best of" collection but her own unscripted TV series. With...
Detours
Detours

Thematically, Detours may not seem like much of a detour to Sheryl Crow fans. Her politics pour out of these songs the way you might expect them to if you caught wind of her epic cross-country bus trip, with the activist Laurie David, to promote environmental awareness months pri...
The Way It Really Is
The Way It Really Is

Lisa Loeb started her career at the top with her No. 1 song "Stay (I Missed You)." Since then, she's achieved Gold and Platinum sales, been nominated for a Grammy, and had her own television series on the Food Network. The Way It Really Is, her new album, chronicles life and lo...
Cake and Pie
Cake and Pie

It could be argued that people forgive singers like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion their syrupy song choices because their voices are so magnificent. Almost exactly the opposite is true of coffeehouse cutie Lisa Loeb. While her voice is pleasant enough, it lacks the range, vibra...

Hard Candy

Japanese pressing of Madonna's 2008 full-length album includes one bonus track, 'Ring My Bell'. Hard Candy is a brilliant uptempo collection that adds a hip-hop beat to the cultural icon's club sensibilities, thanks to collaborations with Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Wi...

Firecracker
Firecracker

Firecracker picks up right where Loeb's 1995 debut Tails left off, mixing relentlessly upbeat pop numbers with moody ballads tied together with her innate sense for a memorable melody. Firecracker starts particularly strong: A thumping bass line propels the rhythmic "I Do," lush ...

Tails

Though Tails was her debut album, Loeb had already hit the stratosphere of the pop charts a year earlier with "Stay," a monster hit from the soundtrack of the film Reality Bites. "Stay" is also included on Tails, but the other 12 tracks demonstrate Loeb had more than one good son...

Reviews:

Pretty good, but not great
I consider myself to be a pretty big Lisa Loeb fan, I have purchased all of her CD's, saw her in concert and watched her show on E!. I think this is an interesting CD, but nearly all of the songs have already been released. The interview disc is interesting, but it is not something I am going to listen to over and over. I am not giving this 5 stars because I would have like to have seen at least one previously unreleased track.

Beautiful Acousitc Lisa
Soldifying my love of Lisa Loeb was my seeing her in concert at Schubas in Chicago in 2002. With just her voice and guitar, and about 100 people in the tiny room, I was blown away. From the moment she opened her mouth to sing the opening line of "This"...In an open room that echos well....I was transfixed. Though a lot of my favorite Lisa songs are on the more recent albums, this release is super because it's almost exculsively just her voice and guitar just like that concert. Not only that, but I feel closer to Lisa than ever with the bonus interview disc. I didn't release the depression Lisa suffered from, something I've fought for more years than I care to mention. Certainly if you're a Lisa fan you're going to be wanting this release.

a time capsule opened...
(my review for iTunes) :: This album was originally released only on cassette tape in the early 90's, by lisa herself... before a record company & the major label albums that everyone knows her for. this recording has been in high demand by fans ever since, and lisa has been promising to release it. that day has finally come. if you want just the album, download the first 10 tracks for $9.90. tracks 11-33 are what is on the 2nd disc of the physical release, and are commentary tracks (with the exception of the 2 in-studio tracks at the end). every song is raw, acoustic, just lisa & her guitar... some of her best songs appear on this re-release, in their original form.

Purple Tape Lives
After many years of inquiry, Lisa Loeb was kind enough to re-release the infamous "Purple Tape" tape on CD. Being a long time LL fan and not having the orignal tape I decided to grab it early to get my signed copy and I'm glad I did. Of course the tunes are classic LL and they did a nice job of producing this. What I really liked was the 2nd disc that contains an interview with Lisa that explains the background of every song plus 2 live takes of "Snow Day" and "Stay". After listening to the interview I appreiate the songs and her even more.

Good Stuff
Got mine today. While this isn't as strong as her other releases (& it isn't meant to be, these recordings are very nice acoustic demos), it's very much worth having & a yet another reminder of why LL may very well be the best singer songwriter recording today. Disc 2 is also interesting & also worth a listen + it has 2 exclusive tracks for us collectors. If you're new to Lisa Loeb, this isn't the place to start, but for fans this is a must have.
