A double disc may seem indulgent after barely a decade in the biz, but after meandering through the commercial minefields of innocent fun (1992's Born into the '90s), pure raunch (1993's 12 Play), and pop crossover (1995's R. Reviews:
THEIR LAST ALBUM I remember this album when I was 8. I loved this album. I played this record out. This record brings 3 distinct elements: the ultimate skill of their soulful GOd-given talent; naughty but flava'ful funk' and the sexy could-get-you-into-trouble wind-downs they are famous for. This album is a combination of the sentimental New Jack Swing and the harder edged funk. Musically, this album is a distinct flight back to the origins of funk. They described their sound as SEXUAL R&B. With this album, they get to the core of who they are. Really, they were the most, significant, talented soul collective of the '90s. After one night of this album, we knew these bothers would be around for awhile. This album has been certified Platinum. Remember, this was 1995. devante is the best and my favorite devante swing is the best jodeci is my favorite male group besides b2k this album is the real deal all of there albums are really tight Way Ahead Of Its Time!!! Best R&B Album Ever Made!!! This cd is 10 plus years old and easily blows out todays music. I had some cats come up and ask me who is that your playing in your system? And I'm like "JODECI". They couldn't believe how old it was and still sounds up to date. These guys had to be in there early 20's. They said they were going to go and pick it up the same day they heard it. I told them that its so old that they would have to special order it. So they offered to buy it off of me. I sold to them right there on the spot for $30. But of course I had a extra copy at home. It is that good that I kept 2 copys. Tracks 6 thru 21 are insane. Devante put his foot down on these tracks non-stop. I've been crazy over this cd since the day and year it came out. I remember I waited in my car for Hastings (store) to open up and I have never been pleased so much over a cd. And I collect alot of music. I'd say I have about 400 cd's and if I had to choose a favorite this would be the one. I have all the Jodeci cds and this is the best one by far!!!! Get it while it is still not so hard to find. You"ll love it. Basically when this cd came out in 95 it was way, way ahead of its time!! So if they were to re-release this cd today for the new generation it would probably be very much up to date. Oh yea I love all the interludes on this cd. jodeci's most complete album!! this album from beginning to end is one of the best r&b albums of all time. Devante Swing is absolutely off the chain on this one. If you like upbeat songs then you like the first half of the cd, When you want to slow it down you got 11 thru 22. my personal favorite tracks are time & place, lets do it all, and can we flo. It's even hard to really pinpoint a favorite track because the whole thing is awseome. lets put it out there. Mr. dalvin showed his skill in producing a couple tracks, K-ci & jojo are to of the best singers to ever be put on wax, Devante is a genius who probaly doesn't realize how much his sound is missed. With all that being said, Jodeci are legends in the r&b world and need to come back and revive r&b and music period. THIS ALBUM IS JODECI AT ITS PEAK!!! i am kinda disturbed by people whom seem to feel this is the weakest of the 3 albums they put out. not to take anything away from forever my lady. its classic, but too me this album tops it. jodeci is one of the few artists who actually get better and better with time. most times the first album is an artist's best and they try to live up to that. to me this album is like the evolution of jodeci. this album would blow my mind even if it was an instrumental album. im actually still trying to find instrumental versions of tracks. and thats saying something considering K-Ci is the best male soul voice ever. (well okay sam cooke and those cats are better but since 1980 somethin) anyway my point is if you think the down side of this album is the interludes.. YOU ARE NOT A TRUE FAN OR just dont REALIZE what you're missing. LISTEN!!! real close if you have to.. the beats and harmony that are in the background on those interludes is amazing!! i wish myself that they were actual songs themselves... to put it in perspective, since this album came out there arent any songs that can even compare musically to the music playing in the background of the interludes on this album... if u know rnb soul music u know what i mean.. BOTTOM LINE: JODECI INTERLUDES ARE BETTER THAN 99.9% of rnb that has come out since... so dont be one of those cats thats like "oh its a good album but the interludes are way too numberous, just be happy your gettin that much extra jodeci.. and by the way silly.. they are there for a purpose, its a concept album for those who dont realize it from the title alone.. thanks for listening. sorry if it took an angry tone, i just wish people were a little more open minded about art!!!! in my opinion buy this album its the best rnb record ever made since 1990 and still reigns supreme |
