Reviews:
letting his light shine again it took me awhile to accept his transformation to Yusuf Islam but once i did, i was rewarded. the talent & voice of Cat Stevens is intact. this show was beautifully set & recorded. i like it even better than Majikat and as much as his old KCET concert.
his updates of his classics still retain their original spirit & the new songs stand well next to the classics, not like other classic rockers' new songs which audiences politely bear through in order to hear the hits.
i hope he performs more & i'm glad he has given life back to his music. like it saids in the bible, he has a special light too precious to keep locked away. Cat Stevens, Yusuf Islam As a folksinger in the late sixties and early seventies at houseparties and local clubs, I studied the styles of Dylan, Denver, Lightfoot, Paul Simon, Prine and others, but when I saw Cat Stevens live, I suddenly understood dynamics! Within a 3 minute song, he took me on a rollercoaster ride. What an amazing performer! More than 30 years later,
Yusuf still maintains that great voice, charisma and showmanship, still maintaining the ability to easily relate to his audience. His old songs stand the test of time. Do as I did and learn how to play the songs on Tea for the Tillerman, it will greatly improve your guitar skills or just listen to it for the sheer enjoyment, great songs..... A beautiful soul One of my favorite singers of the late 60's/early 70's, mainly due to his soulful, spiritual lyrics and quest for "something more." This performance does not disappoint ... still the same beautiful soul, radiating with peace and inner wisdom. The production is lovely, the music divine, and the lyrics touch the soul as much today as they did back then. Yusuf, it is wonderful to hear your gifts once again! The courage ot change The transformation of the former Cat Stevens in Yusuf Islam is a musical and visual feast.
The courage of this man to go where is head and heart lead him is inspiring.
That he has adopted a religion that is so misunderstood and has done so much to show that one view of any religion is wrong, there are many views.
Well worth the money and the time to view the concert and the story. Yusuf's Cafe Session ...Yummy and what:'s for dessert? If you are a great fan of Cat Stevens and enjoyed "Majikat" dvd, you will certainly enjoy "Yusuf's Cafe Session". Yusuf has come full circle. His voice is absolutely superb. Yusuf's stage presence is so gracious and humble. The live session makes you feel as though you are at the concert. The storytime and side orders are an added treat. More dessert please. I look forward to many more sessions from Yusuf. Great dvd and thank you Yusuf for returning to the recording studio and singing your songs. |
