The beat that got a generation dancing and brought ska back into the public eye. Produced by Elvis Costello, then still a boy wonder himself, the album built on the sound of the Specials' first two singles, and gave the world its first extended look at Two Tone. Inspired writing ...

One Step Beyond...

Fuelled by the ska of Prince Buster ("Madness"), and inspired by the insanity of British music, right from the start Madness were a quintessentially English band. Two-tone more by association than fact, they came to the fore at the same time as the Specials, with a ska beat, a po...

Kind of Blue

This is the one jazz record owned by people who don't listen to jazz, and with good reason. The band itself is extraordinary (proof of Miles Davis's masterful casting skills, if not of God's existence), listing John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on saxophones, Bill Ev...

Buoyed by the runaway commercial success of Led Zeppelin IV, Jimmy Page used this 1973 follow-up to hone his already impressive production skills, and the result was a collection sporting an impressively expansive sound. Benefiting--especially on tracks such as "Dancing Days Are ...

Total Madness: The Very Best of Madness

Excuse us for caring, but there are a few things shamefully wrong about this long overdue salute to the immortal Nutty Boys. For starters, any self-respecting Madness package should open with "One Step Beyond," not end with it. And a meager 12 tracks (43 minutes) from the hugely ...

The Very Best of Prince

Taken literally, this album's title is sure to cause endless arguments. Nothing from Dirty Mind, not a trace of the early anthem "Controversy," no "Erotic City"--no non-LP cuts at all, save some edited single versions--and a cold shoulder to the criminally out-of-print Gold E...

Reviews:

Not Intended To Be A Great Compilation!!
Any fan of Madness who opted to buy their individual albums remastered knows how frustrating it was that either the band or label decided to leave off key singles as bonus tracks. Just to irritate us further they included them as videos within the enhanced portion of the rematers but not the songs themselves. The Specials remastered albums were handled the same way. This compilation in and of itself is not very comprehensive but is eseential for buyers of the individual remasters in order to have the songs that were not included, such as House of Fun, The Sun And The Rain and Wings of a Dove (A Celebratory Song). If you haven't purchased any of their studio albums remastered yet then I recommend that you pick up The Lot and be done with it. But if you're in the same boat I'm in this is the cheapest way to get the missing songs in a remastered form. If pressed I'm sure the band or some fan boy would say the usual, "the albums were meant to be released this way...", yadda, yadda, yadda, but the bottom line is that it was lame the way they handled it. Thanks for the videos, but sheesh, what's the point if the songs aren't included as bonus tracks!?! The bottom line is that its just another way to force fans to buy another album that they shouldn't need in the first place. I hope this helps others avoid the same fate I'm in.

Incomplete Madness
This CD is not a complete collection of Hits. Prefer the "Complete Madness". This is a great compilation.
