Kind of Blue This is the one jazz record owned by people who don't listen to jazz, and with good reason. Reviews:
This is a multichannel SACD
My rating is based on how I like the Music and the Multichannel mix. On this recording the mix is good. To me this is the best recording made by Roxy Music. This is a must have if you will have 100 albums or more.
I have this wonderful SACD-player at home. It gives me great pleasure to listen to recordings in all my speakers, the 5 channel mix.
It's hard to find good recordings in Multichannel SACD. I search all over the internet and in shops. In shops they don't select Multichannel SACDs as a particular category. It's much better on the Internet.
The problem is to find the Multichannel SACD and not the Stereo SACDs. There are several Internet shops selling SACDs with no such information, what so ever. So also Amazon.com, Amazon.uk and Amazon.de
Sometimes there are customers giving information on whether the SACD is in Multichannel or not. May be it's just me, but I would very much like to have this information.
Please give information on Multichannel or Stereo for the SACD !!
An all time favorite
Despite Amazon's description that the album was released in 2003, the record was actually released in the early '80s... 1982 to be exact... vinyl 12"... 2 sides and handle with kid gloves to keep away additional snap crackle pop that we had to live with in those days. The album has remained a high point in my collection though I have retired the vinyl to storage and replaced it with CD. I think so much of it that it is a favorite CD to give away to new people in my life on occasion. And I always purchase new ones to give away... it just has more class, doesn't cost much and makes a better impression. I very highly recommend this amazing sounding CD.
Great
Very nice SACD, the 2 channel version is great, the multichannel surround version is great in a different way.
Nice SACD!
A Great Album Gets Better With Age! And a 5.1 Re-Mix!
When I first heard this CD I was living in Germany in the middle 80's in Frankfurt while in the USAF... Being lucky enough to live across the street from an Audio Video store I listened to alot of music being used as "demo" music on a lot of nice systems... Although only stereo, this CD quickly grew on me it's definitely not an 80's sounding recording as Aja is not a 70's sounding recording! The stereo version of this album is beautiful the 5.1 SACD is "Figgin Sweet!"
If you have have an SACD player and you can get a copy of "Avalon", DO IT!!!! If you only have a stereo, get the stereo version!
Steller work
I dont have much to say about the actual content. We all know how amazing Roxy is. Iam mainly writing the review for SACD quality. It is very well done. It is very hard to get a excellent sound stage while using 5 speakers. The stage never floats, instruments are very well balanced. Voice comes out nice and clear. Stage feels large and deep, with lot air.
If you are looking for one definitive SACD this is it. Again there are few other good ones too.
