Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
Nova Scotia-born singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan was only 20 years old when Touch was released in 1988. This is an impressive first effort, though maybe too earnest in its attempt to break new ground in otherwise familiar terrain of late-'80s synthesized textures. Yet McLachlan's pristine vocals and intricate guitar work yield several memorable tracks, including the opening "Out of the Shadows," the popular "Vox" (which also appears in a tripped-out--verging on hokey--remixed version at the end), and the enchanting "Strange World." Her youthful romanticism is perhaps captured best in "Trust" ("Somewhere deep inside me I hold a picture / Of a time long gone--a time of ease and / Simple pleasures..."), a catchy tune that is embellished with male vocals, sparkling keyboards, bongos, and distant electric-guitar licks. Later tracks become more endearing with each listen but in certain moods can be nauseatingly dreamy and vaporous. Nevertheless, this disc endures as a fine remembrance of the early days, when McLachlan was a fresh-eyed mystic songbird whose passions were not yet realized on an international scale. --Rebecca Robinson

Solace

Solace, Nova Scotian Sarah McLachlan's second album, is considerably more mature and musically sophisticated than her 1988 debut, the promising if limited Touch. In fact, this disc is a must-have for McLachlan fans whose first encounter with her work was with her extremely popula...
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

Pre-Lilith Fair, McLachlan had critical acclaim and a cult following but was otherwise just another hard-working female singer/songwriter--one who wasn't blasting down doors with overt sexuality or popping along in front of a male Svengali. Similar in their emotional urgency to h...

Surfacing

There's the requisite number of gorgeously melodic and deeply heartfelt songs here--the addictive "Sweet Surrender," the Hollywood-style ballad "I Love You," the sad, profound "Angel," the flat-out spectacular "Witness." McLachlan's not prolific, but this short, bittersweet album...
Afterglow
Afterglow

Is Sarah McLachlan a secret punk rocker? To be sure, her rebellion is hushed. On Afterglow, her first studio album since 1997's Surfacing, McLachlan's music is as tempered as ever; at times even the piano chords at the heart of the sound are tucked neatly beneath layer upon layer...

Mirrorball

Grafted from McLachlan's supremely satisfying 1998 performances, Mirrorball is drawn almost equally from the multiplatinum Surfacing and its superior predecessor, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. (Included also is the lovely, hard-to-come-by "I Will Remember You.") Live, a haunting ball...

Wintersong

An album like this could cement Sarah McLachlan as a middle-of-the-road crooner ready for the Andy Williams Christmas Show, but there's more beneath the surface of Wintersong than just Christmas chestnuts, over-roasting on an open fire. Longtime McLachlan producer Pierre Marchan...

Reviews:

A TRUE MASTERPIECE
Sarah McLachlan's TOUCH combines the elements of folk and progressive rock. She is a fine lyricist and an extreme talent of sorts. Her vocal range is quite impressive. Her ability to extend phrasing is amazing and many times it sounds as if she is doing it on impulse as opposed to singing a phrase which has been written note for note. This recording will please those who are fans of ANNIE HASLAM. This particular recording is timeless. Ben's Song is more heartbreaking than some of Procol Harum's death ballads. The whole record seems to have a depressing nature to it but that is the beauty of her music. When I listen to TOUCH AND SEVERAL of her OTHER releases, I am in bewilderment over how she comes up with the chord progressions. It's like the first time you experience an outstanding BEATLES song. She is in league with those class of writers. Buy this record, you will never regret it.

Sarah's Pristine Premeir
The order of status in the universe has always been Jesus Christ#3,God#2 Sarah Mclachlan#1. This is her first album recording at only age 20 and her voice has a freshness to it as well as sounding ecstatically devine Sas on all the 200 gram vinyls of her albums. I invested in a new 400 dollar cartridge after buying all of them. The music is not quite as disciplined as on some of her later albums but thats what youthful times are for. I am just sad that Sara has slowed down in her recordings I guess cause of her admirable devotion to humanitarian causes-I hope she gives a little more before retiring. Ashwin Sood(her drummer-husband is one lucky guy.

Like Stepping Into Another World
If you listen to this CD without a sense of where she is coming from, you may think like one reviewer said that this sounds hokey or nauseatingly dreamy...I highly disagree. This is still my favorite Sarah McLachlan album next to "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy." To me, Sarah has always had this renaissance quality to her music and this one exemplifies this quality more than any other album. Sarah plays the 12 string guitar on this album! Can you think of any other female artist that plays a 12 string guitar? If you know, let me know! Simply put, this is a breathtakingly beautiful album with deep intense romantic lyrics of longing and forbidden charms. The instrumental piece "Uphill Battle" is wonderful! This album is a keeper in my collection although other Sarah McLachlan albums have been traded and sold in. This album shows the range and beauty of a still wonderful female artist who is truly talented and successful without selling her sexuality.

Nice Early Album!
Though Sarah McLachlan was very young at the time ( 1988 ) when she recorded her first album "Touch", her great talent clearly shines throughout the album. She has obviously matured both as a singer and especially as a songwriter since then; but there are really fine songs to be found here too. Recorded in the late 1980's it's no surprise that there is the typical 1980's sound on most tracks, and fans of her great albums of the 1990's may find this album somewhat over-produced. For me the standout track is the catchy "Vox"; one the songs that sound the most like later recordings. Quieter songs like "Out of the Shadows" and "Strangest World" are also among my favourites. The album documents McLachlan's great talents as a songwriter, as a singer and also as an intrumentalist - she plays a lot of beatiful acoustic guitar and piano.

Excellent sound and excellent condition.
I was VERY pleased with my order. It was sent in a timely fashion in an neat and well packaged box. The sound quality of the CD is excellent and it came in perfect condition. I am very glad I opted to make the purchase. Sarah is one of my favorite singers so ALL the songs were good.. LOL!
