Prodcut Description: [More Information ...] Laurie Berkner serves up a heaping helping of whacked-out, slaphappy lyrics and get-you-moving acoustic guitar licks. The littlest listeners will want to slip on their dancing shoes for such originals as the opening track, "We Are the Dinosaurs," on which a pack of prehistorics prance around, stopping only to eat their food when they're in the mood and take a rest over in their nest. The blues-soaked "I Know a Chicken" teeters on frenzied, shaky eggs and an over-the-top tempo, and the sweet, musically simple "123" tickles sentimental sides with its "koochie-koochie coo / I love you" refrain.Besides her sure-footedness with her own songs, Berkner also nails a number of traditional tunes here, most notably "She'll Be Comin'' 'Round the Mountain," "ABCD Medley," on which she artfully melds the ABC song with "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," and "Wimoweh (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)," a gloriously kid-ified rendition of the already infectious original. Overall, this record reflects Berkner's knack for stacking on the fun. Best of all, because of its standout instrumentation, parents are apt to groove along ungrudgingly, thereby setting the stage for a squabble-free shared musical experience. She's still playing it non-stop... I bought this for my daughter for Christmas (2 years old). She is still playing it 2 months later non-stop. I must admit, the first song is by far her most favourite so we often get no further into the CD than track 1. Nevertheless, and despite the repetition, I am delighted to have successfully enticed her away from the TV. She sings along, stomps her feet, and is now more interested in all kinds of music although none others we have tried stack up so well as this. fabulous! I am a new Laurie Berkner fan. This is the second CD we have by her and my 4-year-old and I just love her songs and music! Both CDs (the other one is Under the Shady Tree) are fantastic. Smart lyrics and excellent tunes! It is so interesting that her songs appeal to both adults and kids. :) Very Pleased We have used this CD in our preschool for years now and I bought my own copy to use for a college class in Early Childhood Education and they all loved it too! Great original Music This cd was a present from my sister in law, for my daughter. BOth my daughters love it, and the more we hear it the more we love it. My daughter is even singing it now on her own, and she is 4 years old. Really fun music and you can dance to the music which kids just love. I plan to recommend it to all my friends with young children. Catchy little tunes! If I have to listen to this CD one more time I'm going to scream! With that said, however, it is a very enchanting CD and now that I know ALL THE WORDS to every song (because my daughter makes me play it over and over) it's fun to sing along. The dinosaur song is our absolute favorite. And the folksy "What falls in the fall" is one that you will sing in your head even when the music is not on. Great songs from Laurie Berkner...but then again, aren't they all? |
