Prodcut Description: [More Information ...] The Party at the Palace was in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, held over the Golden Jubilee Weekend, 1-4 June 2002. The concert itself was the pop equivalent of the Prom at the Palace, a classical music event. The concert was held at the gardens of Buckingham Palace Garden as part of the Golden Jubilee. It was touted as the greatest concert in Britain since Live Aid or possibly ever. Tickets to the event were determined by a lottery, and 12,000 people attended the concert, and an estimated one million people watched outside the Palace in The Mall and around the Queen Victoria Memorial; another 200 million saw it on television. The concert included performances of many hit songs from the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The event was the culmination of a national day of partying. The BBC Music Live Festival also occurred on the day. At 1:00 towns across the United Kingdom had bands play All You Need Is Love before church bells were rung around the country.Dame Shirley Bassey - GoldfingerTom Jones, Blue - You Can Leave Your Hat OnTony Bennett - If I Ruled The WorldAnnie Lennox - WhySir Elton John - I Want LoveBrian Wilson - California GirlsBrian Wilson,Emma Bunton,Atomic Kitten, Sir Cliff Richard - Good VibrationsEric Clapton - LaylaSteve Winwood - Gimme Some Lovin Joe Cocker With Steve Winwood (Hammond Organ), Brian May - With A Little Help From My FriendsRay Davies - LolaRod Stewart With J anna Jacoby (Violin) - Handbags & GladragsEric Clapton, Sir Paul McCartney - While My Guitar Gently WeepsSir Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker,Ladysmith Black Mambazo - All You Need Is LoveSir Paul McCartney And Everyone - Hey JudeTom Jones - Sex BombPhil Collins - You Can t Hurry LoveBrian May (On Palace Roof), Roger Taylor, Ray Cooper - God Save The QueenRicky Martin, Mis-Teeq - Cup Of Life & Livin La Vida LocaS Club 7 - Don t Stop Movin Annie Lennox - Sisters Are Doing It For ThemselvesAtomic Kitten - Dancing In The StreetWill Young - I Heard It Through The GrapevineBlue - Get ReadyEmma Bunton - Baby LoveMis-Teeq - Stop In The Name Of LoveThe Corrs - The Long And Winding RoadToploader - Dancing In The MoonlightBryan Adams - Everything I Do (I Do It For You)Queen - Radio Ga GaQueen - We Will Rock YouQueen + Will Young - We Are The ChampionsQueen + The London Cast Of The Musical We Will Rock You - Bohemian RhapsodySir Cliff Richard - Living DollSir Cliff Richard With S Club 7, Brian May - Move ItOzzy Osbourne,Tony Iommi - ParanoidBrian Wilson, Eric Clapton - The Warmth Of The SunBrian Wilson,The Corrs - God Only Knows

Reviews:
Party at the Palace The Party at the Palace: Queen's Golden Jubile was fantistic. It was almost like you were there, but better It was a nice Party Have always regrded the British Royals as having outstayed their welcome a bit - especially the younger generation - but I must say that this concert, celebrating the Queen's 50th year of Queendom, is really quite moving and positive. Most of the Brit (and some US favorites) pop establishment appears - Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey look fabulous! - but for some not-very-mysterious reason the Stones are absent, not sure why David Bowie isn't there. But there's Rod, and Eric, and Paul, and of course Elton, and it's a pleasure to see them all lined up through the course of a very long day.
My favorite moment is Rod launching into All You Need Is Love, and then Eric and Paul dedicating While My Guitar to George. The Royals come out and chat with all the performers like old friends, and the crowd is waving little Union Jacks for a change instead of being soccer hooligans. Lots of younger stars too, not my generation, but the whole DVD is a happy occasion and well worth watching. |
