Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
Slayer is the premier thrash metal band on the planet. Since 1983 the band has defined a genre and thrived where many have come and gone. Consistently releasing acclaimed albums and delivering brutal live shows, Slayer is a revered and respected fixture in the hard rock/metal landscape now and forever. World Painted Blood is the most vital and exciting metal release in recent memory. Produced by Greg Fidelman and Executive Produced by Rick Rubin (the same team responsible for Metallica's Death Magnetic) the songs are intense and performed at a level only reachable by the masters of their craft. From epic statements like the title track and "Hate Worldwide," to the fast, punk/thrash outbursts of "Snuff" and "Psychopathy Red," to the dark theater of "Beauty Through Order" and "Human Strain" there is nothing backward-looking about World Painted Blood; it's the sound of a band effortlessly earning their relevance in 2010. Deluxe version includes a DVD of Playing With Dolls, a 20-minute animated horror short directed by Mark Brooks (Metalocolpyse) and featuring new Slayer music. Reviews:
hot or cold album
from reading the reviews, it looks like your either going to love this cd, or hate it. i'm going to have to fall into the latter. as much as i want to like this cd, i just can't. the riffs are dead, the solo's overdone and the lyrics overused.
this cd may grow on me though, only time will tell that. i think it's just, that when your craving those great hooks and riffs that slayer is known for, and all you get is bland "heard-it-all-before" thrash...well, ya get a little let down.
DELUXE EDITION IS A MAJOR WASTE OF DOUGH!
First let me start off by saying that the album itself is great, I just had to take off 2 full stars for how useless the extra DVD is. Minus one star for the extra dough they charge for it and minus one star for how lame the short film is. I feel very disappointed and ripped off. The animation is boring crap, the storyline is lame, it doesn't feature even one full song and lasts a paltry 20 minutes long. SPOILER ALERT: Considering the content of Slayer's lyrics you would think the person who came up with the short film could of come up with something more unique. Instead, the plot follows a man who finds his mother killed by a man in a gimp suit when he was a child. Jump to about 20 years later and we find that he has become a killer himself, tracking down & killing various women in order to butcher them in an attempt to re-build his beloved mother out of the corpse' body parts. When his task is complete he lays down to take a nap with his creation only to wake up and find that she has left. That's it. Oh and if you think that sounds like perhaps the short film contains some cool Slayer lyric style gore, you'd be wrong, the gore isn't even satisfactory. The storyline could of been made more interesting had the short film been animated better (it was barely animated actually) or at least included some more creative imagery. Anyway, the album itself is KILLER! Just don't waste the extra dough for the DVD, it's a complete ripoff. I'm trying not to blame Slayer for ripping me off & instead put the blame on the schmucks who talked Slayer into including this lame crap with the album. Surely Slayer wouldn't rip their fans off in this way.
P.S. If you're looking for a recent metal release with an excellent DVD companion, check out the Deluxe Edition of Dethklok's Dethalbum 2. It contains over 50 minutes of excellently animated & often hilarious cartoon music videos with all the gratuitous cartoon gore you could wish for.
Just Buy it
SLAYER has never let the fans down. Only Slayer can get away with the little short about the serial killer on the DVD. Nobody even bats an eye. If Selloutica or Megadeth that video they would be in court being sued. Slayer does what they want, when they want and gets away with it. GREAT CD. If you like Slayer or Metal buy it. The DVD is not nessary actually I found it silly but if you are a fan check it out.
Good new effort from Slayer
Slayer was one of my favorite bands growing up. With the exception of a few odd moments on albums, you can pretty much always know what you're going to get with them. This album is definitely Slayer. It has all of the traditional Slayer elements of speed, power, anger and aggression. Some of the songs grabbed me right away, then the others had to take a week to sink in. I would definitely say that this is their best album in a long time. However, the one area that it seriously suffers is in the production. It just isn't as crisp and clear as some of their previous albums and doesn't seem to have near as much punch in a good stereo system. I guess they should've just stayed far away from anyone who has produced the turd that Metallica has become.
Hell yes \m/\m/
Slayer never dissapoint, and this album is a worthy addition to the Slayer library. The songs are awesome pure Slayer style thrash metal, Tom's vox are still excellent, Kerry & Jeff's twin metal assault is still as powerful as always and Dave's drumming is top notch. This album is way better than Christ Illusion even though that too was an excellent album, this is my favorite Slayer effort since Season's. Slayer rules!
