Steven Spielberg produced this live-action feature starring the friendly ghost created in 1940 by Joe Orolio. In it, greedy heiress Carrigan Crittenden inherits the haunted Whipstaff Manor and discovers that the house contains a treasure, which is closely guarded by three nasty ghosts. She invites ghost therapist Dr. James Harvey, and his daughter Kat, to move into the eerie mansion and get rid of the supernatural creatures. The nephew of the three spirits is Casper, a friendly ghost who becomes Kat's pal. Casper takes Kat to his father's secret lab where he once attempted to bring Casper back to life with a special machine. Carrigan eavesdrops on their conversation and decides to become a ghost herself, in the hope that she will get the booty more easily. Then she can use the machine to change back to a human. However, Carrigan doesn't realize that you can't flirt with the afterlife.

Reviews:
Great family film . . . but what a waste of Eric Idle!
First off, I want to say that this is an outstanding family film. Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci make an impressive duo as father and daughter, while the effects are especially realistic and outstanding. But . . . couldn't they have given Eric Idle a better purpose for this film? I mean, he's from MONTY PYTHON! At least give him some catchy wordplay! Here, in this movie, he isn't given much, but he should have been given a whole lot. He could have had a hysterical conversation with the ghostly trio or something like that. But anyway, this really is a good film, especially if you want to see the original animated Casper the Friendly Ghost turn into a full CGI character.

Of all the Casper movies, this one is definitely my favorite. Live action was the next step for Casper, and they definitely nailed it. The story is not only cute, but moving. I love it!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!
I HAVE WATCHED THIS MOVIE TIME & TIME AGAIN. I NEVER GET TIRED OF IT. IT HAS SUCH A SWEETNESS TO IT. I ORDERED THIS ONE FOR MY 8 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER. I THINK SHE WILL REALLY LIKE IT. SEEMS LIKE A GOOD CHOICE FOR HER AGE. I THINK THIS FILM CAN TEACH HER IT IS O.K. NOT TO GO ALONG WITH THE CROWD & STAND UP FOR WHO YOU ARE NOT WHAT EVERYONE TRIES TO MAKE YOU. I THINK IT IS A REALLY CUTE MOVIE WITH GREAT MORALS TO IT. I RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY!!!!
A darling movie!
Casper was always one of my favorites as a child, and this movie adaptation of the series didn't disappoint. The only thing I can say about this movie that is negative is that some of the language was inappropriate for smaller children. The premise of a man trying to help ghosts with their psychological issues is wonderful, considering the fact that his wife had recently passed away, and it explains his need to prove to himself that the after-life exists. Christina Ricci is adorable in this film, she is the ivory soap/sweet heart next door and you can't beat that in a children's film. Again, the only negative I can say is that some of the language is coarse, not right out swearing, but coarse and not always what I would consider appropriate for small children, but the movie overall is great.
Casper is a great family film!
