Dakine 60/40 Bag the Perfect Bag for Us
The two of us were looking for a large, rectangular ski bag to replace our Atomic bag, which is shaped like a pear. This has always made it difficult to handle and a poor fit for our locker at Sunday River. We got more than we expected with the new Dakine. First off, it seems very well constructed, with heavy zippers and very sturdy wheels. We've manage to fit all our ski gear into the bottom half: boots, helmets, gloves, and 2 pairs each of ski pants, as well as a variety of miscellaneous items and spare gloves etc. In the top half, we carry our clothes. We ski every mid-week (working weekends)and the top of the bag goes home with us for "restocking." It fits perfectly in the back seat of our truck and the bottom half fits right into our ski locker, allowing plenty of room for all of our skiis. This week, we are spending our usual mid-week at Sunday River then heading off to North Conway for a week. We'll just mate the bags and off we'll go. Perfect.

We purchased the Dakine 60/40 convertible rolling duffle bag (9300 cubic units)as it had a lot of positive reviews on backcountry.com. When we first recieved it we were taken back a little bit. Here's why. We knew about the two bags splitting from each other so that you can avoid being over the 50 pounds at the check in counter at the airport. We looked at a ton of pictures on backcountry.com about this rolling duffle bag and other similar ones from Dakine. When the duffle bag splits into two bags, the largest bag has one opening where you are supposed to put your most heaviest items. The other bag is unique to say the least. It has two medium (using ebags cube sets to identify the size of the pockets as the ebags fit exactly into to the pockets of this 2nd bag) pockets on one side at the bottom and top of the bag. The medium ebag travel cube set fits exactly into these 2 pockets. In the middle of these 2 medium pockets is where you would put the large ebag cube. I was able to fit 2 large ebag cubes filled with a large number of rolled clothes, in this middle pocket. Here is the thing. Turn over this bag to the other side. There are 2 medium pockets(fits the medium size ebag travel cubes) just like on the other side but no large middle pocket. My husband and I like this bag very much and we still have to fill the two medium pockets on the other side with no large pocket in the middle. My husband already weighed the 2 combined bags which are held together with the buckles like in the picture and are currently filled with clothes (all in ebags travel cubes). The bag weighed in at 60 pounds. This is not a problem as when we get to the counter we will just seperate the bags and count them as 2 checked bags.
