At 24 years old, Orianthi has already experienced what most aspiring musicians only dream of. She's opened for her hero (STEVE VAI), backed an Idol (CARRIE UNDERWOOD), traded solos with a legend (CARLOS SANTANA) and shared the stage with the King of Pop (MICHAEL JACKSON). What's left to conquer? The world stage, for one, and this guitar wunderkind has her sights clearly set on the road ahead. After a performance with CARRIE UNDERWOOD on stage at the 2009 Grammy Awards the blogosphere was buzzing with news of this little-known guitar prodigy. It prompted MICHAEL JACKSON to call with an offer for her to be his guitarist for his dates at the O2 Arena in London. When offered the gig in MICHAEL JACKSON'S live band, Orianthi joined a prestigious line of guitar players including EDDIE VAN HALEN, SANTANA, SLASH, STEVE STEVANS, JENNIFER BATTEN and LARRY CARLTON. Sadly the tour was not to be and music lost an icon. "Working with Michael was a life-changing experience," Orianthi reflects, "One I will never forget." Her story starts in Adelaide on the southern tip of Australia where, at the age of six, Orianthi began taking an interest in her dad's record collection. "Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Cream, Santana. he was into guitar players that are real songwriters," she boasts. Growing up in the 80s, a decade remembered for its many guitar greats, Orianthi also listened to a lot of Whitesnake, Van Halen and Def Leppard. Her father, who used to be a player in a Greek band, also kept plenty of instruments around the house, and it didn't take long before Orianthi strummed her first chord. Mastering the six-string came naturally. "When I was 11, Carlos Santana came to play Adelaide and that show really affected me," she recounts. "I begged my dad to get me a second hand electric guitar so I could be like Carlos, and that was it, no more acoustic. After that, I would buy all of Carlos' videos - on VHS! - which I kept rewinding to try and learn his solos. I totally wore out the tapes." Some seven years later when Carlos Santana passed through Adelaide again, Carlos' brother arranged a sound-check meeting between the guitar god and his young disciple after hearing some of her music. A sound check jam evolved into an invitation to join him on stage where Orianthi played for about 35 minutes and took a solo in front of a hometown crowd. Performances, tours and guest appearances with STEVE VAI, ZZ TOP and PRINCE have kept Orianthi busy up to this point. But guitar is far from Orianthi's only means of expression. Before she received the call from the King of Pop, Orianthi had already been hard at work on her upcoming album, Believe, on which she sings, writes and leads her own band. Working with Geffen Records Chairman and A&R veteran Ron Fair and producer Howard Benson (All American Rejects, Daughtry, My Chemical Romance, Three Days Grace) her fierceness of character has made its way to songs that will simply knock the socks off of any boy in the rock star schoolyard. Orianthi packs modern girl-power punch into every turn of phrase, but it's the shredding that takes her brand of rock to an entirely new level. Songs like "Suffocated" and "Think Like A Man" are anthemic rock tracks recalling at time Evanescence, Avril Lavigne, Paramore and even a less-music row more-sunset strip Taylor Swift. First single "According To You" is a catchy tale of an ungrateful boyfriend with a killer guitar solo. The result: a thunderous, hook and riff driven debut that sounds larger than life. If, for a moment, you've thought the music world could use another taste of The Runaways' Joan Jett, let us introduce you to Orianthi.

I thought the songs that were the best rockers were the ones written by others. But, either way, this girl can rock!

BRINGING BACK REAL GUIATR ROCK
This girl just rocks! Talented. I love this album because it's bringing back the heavy guitar rifts and rock. Album has a variety of sounds. I personally LOVE the instrumental. I prefer the instrumentals but have embraced her singing and I tend to jam and sing along in the car. I want to see more of her.

A great listen
I bought this album in Asia and there is actually a bonus track in it as compare to the US version. Hence I have 12 songs instead of 11 which I am grateful for as I really think she is just too good to be ignored. This album is completely different from her first self-written and produced "Violet Journey". I would prefer to call it her experimental album but with great effect. It was awesome. "Believe" takes a different turn in terms of musical direction. It has a combinations of feel good pop songs (According to You, Feels Like Home, Believe) and some really hard-edge rock feel (Suffocated, What's It Gonna Be, Bad News). In a market where looks seem to dominate the charts than talent, I rate this album highly. Yes, it does sounds a little like Kelly Clarkson mix with Avril Lavigne but the one thing that differentiate Ori from the above two ladies is she is a hell of a fantastic guitar player. Enuff said. I guess all her fans know it by now. So what's next? Hopefully she gets enough recognition (which she deserves 100%) and success that she is able to have more creative control in song choices/musical direction. I saw two amazing Youtube videos of Orianthi playing the blues (Going Down and Trill is Gone) and it really showcases how good and versatile she is. I love it when she just plays (I believe a lot of us do too). I give credit where credit is due and I would recommend this album to anyone who likes a good rock album that brings back the guitar feel of the 80's. Rock on lady.

Disappointed beyond (my own) words...
After listening to everything I could find by Orianthi and seeing her live in a small club, I could not wait for this release. I am not sure how to express how disappointed I was listening to it on the way home. Thinking that surely I was distracted enough to have missed something, I sat down at home, put on my headphones, and listened again. I have not played it again since. Whoever convinced her she is a pop princess needs to find another line of work. Such a shame to hear such a wonderful player buried in the manure typically applied to what is fed to pop fans. I hope this does not break some protocol, but there is another review here that really does such a wonderful job saying what needs to be said. The only thing I disagree with is the number of stars. I guess I am just more disappointed for exactly the same reasons. Patrique does an excellent job - read the review below. ******** By Patrique "patrique" The problem with this cd is that those of us who have listened to "Violet Journey" got overcome with aural delight and were cynically afraid that anything, yes, little believers, anything, would fall short of that incredibly brilliant mark. In that sense this album did exactly that, fell short of the first. How short is matter of personal speculation. Yes, there are many outstanding moments on this cd. However, the first four songs, which for some inexplicable reason preferred increased gain and bass and voice over the guitar dynamics of one of the best young players in the world, should have been condensed to two cuts since they ALL SOUND ALIKE and are too damn loud to allow an accurate showcasing of Orianthi's talent. Sadly, the formula used is the SAME ONE used by every other band currently squatting on popularity charts. Some nice lyrics and gentle riffs, followed by Blitz and Glitz bass, an all volume gain and heightened yelling (possibly singing but who could tell.) Where, in all of that, is there any room for this girl's amazing guitar talent to be displayed?? Why in the world does that ability have to take a back seat to current pop music trends which are going stale and rigid from all the clones out there blasting away in the same manner? It is hoped that Orianthi's managers and sound people will go back and catch the depth of artistic and acoustic balance displayed on "Violet Journey". It is further wishfully anticipated that her next efforts will give us a blues-only album (electric and acoustic), a form for which she displayed such empathy and kick-ass multi-dimensional sound during an all too brief stint at the Crossroads Guitar Festival of 2007. The pending tragedy will be if these same decision maker geniuses decide to push the envelope of form over substance for this girl who is anything but a simple visual experience in any sense of the word. The music world does not need another POP DIVA looking and sounding like Britney Spears who happens to play guitar. The next album needs to acknowledge that fact in a huge way by emphasizing HER guitar PLAYING, while limiting the bass, gain and volume, thereby letting Orianthi's fully intense riffs speak for themselves.

nice sound
I like her sound. Also her guitar playing is really good, my favorite song on the album is "highly strung" which is a guitar instrumental. I like the pop rock tones and cool lyrics.
