Reviews:
If you enjoy enjoying music
This music is far more than one would expect out of a first-season TV show about singing highschoolers. While it doesn't have the mash-ups that have characterized Glee's first season, the songs themselves are creatively performed and thoroughly fun.
Glee Rocks!
Whether you're a fan of the show or not (and the show is definitely not for everyone), these re-makes / new arrangements, are awesome! I am a fan of the show so I see the characters in my mind as I listen to the songs and they have greater meaning to me because I know the context in which they were sung.
But, if you like these songs by the original artists and you like re-makes in general, then you will likely enjoy these songs. Some people like their favorite songs only when performed by the original artist (or the artist they first heard sing the song) and admittedly, many re-made songs just butcher the originals, but these new arrangements are simply fantastic. You can hear clips of each one on Amazon's MP3 download service so give them a listen before you buy. Don't like them all, get just the ones you want by downloading the MP3s but I love the show and the music so I bought this album and its sequel. Both are well worth the money.
Glee 1
I was disappointed that the country song Kristin Chenoweth sang was not included. But it was still a good soundtrack.
Awesome!
The cast of Glee is wonderful and the songs chosen for the show are awesome! They are really a group of talented performers.
Songs I loved in High School
If you're a post-Baby Boomer like me, a handful of these songs will knock your socks off just like the originals did when you heard them in high school or college. The Glee cast really freshens their versions so it's not a cookie cutter of the original and even the newer material stands on its own. I bought this volume (1) just for "Alone" with Kristen Chenowith w/ Matt Morrison but the only cuts I don't really like are the show tunes but I'll listen anyway. WARNING: GLEE is addictive. You will feel compelled to buy the DVD set, if only for Dianna Agron's version of "You Keep Me Hanging On" with full choreography. Then you'll realize you need to buy GLEE Volume 2. Just give in; you'll thank yourself in the morning.
