Nana Mouskouri Live at Herod Atticus [VHS]

Thrilling!
Having been a Mouskouri fan for over 35 years and seen her many times Stateside, this was a thrill to be able to see her live at an amphitheater over 2,000 years old. I had seen a previous concert performed there with the Vienna Philharmonic but that was shot during the day, with the Acropolis overlooking the Herod Atticus. This was shot at night and seemed eerie. I felt I was back in time watching a Greek play being performed. Greek singer, Greek musicians and a truly devoted audience of Nana lovers. She was wonderful; many familiar Hadjikis songs (the main bulk of the repetory), a few Theodorakis songs and songs by lesser known (to me) composers. No chit chat, just pure music. Nana rules and I wish I had been there.

Nana's Angel
From the very beggining, while she sings "Fidaki", that exotic nediterranean melody, anyone can tell that this is no ordinary concert. Nana's angelic mezzo-soprano voice, the ancient sound of the bouzouki, her inspired closed eyes, her beautifully elegant face and hand language, and the evident spiritual dimension of the performance speaks of a true artistic dimension which is not common these days. The young generations, now used to take so much vulgar noise as "art" should watch this. This is the true angel; the true spirit of popular music. It sould be in every music lover's video collection. A superb version of Schubert's "Ave Maria" closes the concert. Bravo, Nana!!

From old favorites through to new material at the time, Nana gives a faultless performance.
