The opening sequence shows them dangling by harnesses across the back of a Manhattan billboard drumming on hubcaps, pipes, street signs, and plastic garbage pails, all the while swaying and keeping in perfect time. You know how you like to groove along to the radio while driving? Stomp doesn't need a radio--they use their hands to make their own music while cruising the streets of New York. Using just basketballs in a steamy alleyway, the troop creates an incredibly intricate dance and sound with the street, brick walls, and Dumpsters. Included in the program are the push broom, garbage can, and pole dances, just a few of their best-known sequences. Stomp Out Loud showcases the performers in the theater, out about town, and in short humorous vignettes (love the recurring card game!). All in all, they amaze. The Best of Stomp
I saw STOMP live in chicago and have seen the HBO special. I had the sudden urge to watch it again and I was not disappointed. I remember the first time it was aired and this DVD captures every minute of the show. If you have ever seen STOMP...you will love this DVD!!! A Great Buy for Music Teachers
I purchased this video for my Music Appreciation classes while we were studying beats and rhythms. My students loved it. The day after we watched it we went back and recapped all of their favorite moments of the video. Some of the kids have never experienced anything like that and it was a joy to watch their expressions throughout the video presentation. It's a great purchase for Music Teachers everywhere. Not what I'd hoped for
When I saw the Vegas show in December 2008 I was floored! I bought this DVD at the souvenir shop at Planet Hollywood expecting it to be the show I'd just seen. It's not, being exclusively NYC based, much shorter and lacking the humor and audience participation that made the show so charming. If you want a video that better represents the live show then buy the "Stomp Live" DVD, available here on Amazon for about $20 ($10 less than I paid for "Stomp Out Loud" at PH.) I just watched it and it's great! I still prefer the Vegas production which had a larger stage & cast, it seemed more lavish. Unfortunately the Vegas show has closed. Good in small doses
Having never seen or heard of this group I wasn't sure what I was going to get. They are entertaining in small blocks. Watching the whole DVD at once becomes wearing after a while. Banging on junk and making rythym with brooms and basketballs is unique and mostly pleasant to the ears. Rated F for fun. Leaves You Wanting more....~
When 'Stomp' played locally last year we couldn't wait to see it, and see it we did! This production is simply great, a unique musical masterpiece of unscaled proportion. The real appreciation of this show comes from the amazing performance of ALL the stars. 'Percussion strikes', while suspended from a billboard is the most amazing thing ever - a real treat for the entire family. - JAZ |
