Prodcut Description: [More Information ...]
With the spate of publicity surrounding the possible health risks posed by childhood immunization, parents are no longer simply following doctor's orders and automatically having their children vaccinated. Instead, they are asking questions. The problem is the search for answers only leads parents to conflicting, one-sided information: doctors claim that parents are endangering their child's life if they refuse shots, while radical vaccine opponents claim parents are endangering their child's life if they accept shots. With THE VACCINE BOOK, parents finally have one, fair, impartial, fact-based resource they can turn to for answers. Each chapter is devoted to a disease/vaccine pair and offer a comprehensive discussion of what the disease is, how common or rare it is, how serious or harmless it is, the ingredients of the vaccine, and any possible side effects from the vaccine. Ultimately, parents will have to make their own informed decisions as Dr. Bob Sears is neither pro-vaccine nor anti-vaccine. But THE VACCINE BOOK will provide exactly the information parents want and need as they make their way through the vaccination maze.

Finally, A Doctor Who is Brave Enough to Challenge Pharmaceuticals
Did I agree with everything in the book? Overall, yes. This book answered all of my questions regarding vaccines and the human by-products, animals parts, and chemicals that go into making them. Do vaccines do a world of good? YES, but why are we as mothers made to feel insignificant if we have questions about what goes into our childrens' bodies?? Highly recommend this book as a counter-balance to conventional thinking on vaccines -- if for no other reason than to know that there are alturnatives to the "FDA" shot recommendations!

The Vaccine Book
This is a very informative, well written, interesting book. I recommend it to all parents before getting your child vaccinated.

a PRO-vaccine book
This book has some useful information for parents who are a little uneasy with the overdone American childhood vaccination schedule. However, it is not at all critical of vaccines or the medical/pharma industries, and Dr.Sears is definitely very pro-vaccination. He also doesn't give any real, usable advice (only 1/2 a page) for parents who decide not to vaccinate at all....probably because he is clearly against this decision. If you are a little uneasy with the onslaught of vaccines your kid will be typically subjected to in the US, and want to take some control but DO want your kid vaccinated, then this could be your book. But if you are seriously weighing NOT vaccinating your child, then you will find NO support or backup for that decision here. This book is trying to make a compromise for parents who are concerned, but is in no way supportive of the decision not to vaccinate. If you are truly wary of vaccines and do not intrinsically trust the medical and pharmaceutical industries, this book is not for you.

Knowlege removes fear
Knowing about an injection makes it feel like more of an informed decision than just saying give him the needle. Most injections make sense once you understand them. Peace of mind more than anything is the value of this book.

Lots of information
Overall, a very reasonable, information-packed commentary on vaccines. We will be using Dr. Sears' recommended schedule for our kiddo's immunizations, and our pediatrician is happy to accommodate us. Having this kind of commentary is extremely valuable; he has really done his research. It was nice to be able to read over variations in ingredients from pharmaceutical company to company and decide what risks I'm willing to live with. I work with kiddos who have autism, and while I know there are no conclusive researched links between vaccines and autism, I've heard enough stories to be cautious with what I allow to be injected into my baby. With this in hand, I feel informed and as if there is something I can do to mitigate a great deal of the risk while still keeping my child and others safe. Vaccines have saved thousands of lives, but that doesn't mean I should thoughtlessly accept them all in whatever form they take. I'm very grateful for this resource as I enter into parenthood.
